Blake's Story
I'm a professional bassist.
I've played all over the world, mostly here in Denver.
You hear my bass on tv commercials everytime you watch the Broncos, Avalanche or Letterman. I play on commercials for McDonalds, Ford Motors, Colorado Lottery, Fox 31 and many more. I enjoy the position of being a 'go-to guy' for top-level projects in Denver and occasionally out of town as well.
In addition to being as busy as is humanly possible playing gigs for a living, I also teach bass lessons at Rockley Music in Lakewood. I have been teaching for over 25 years now...
I've played on numerous artist's cds, about 60 titles at this point. I was a founding member of the popular Colorado band Wind Machine, and was signed to a label with them during the 80's. I recently toured Europe with a metal band, that was a blast.
I've played at countless functions locally, including the big post-victory rallies for the Bronco's Superbowl wins and Avalanche Stanley Cup wins. When the city of Denver needs live music for a big event, I'm there.
I play debutante balls, weddings, corporate awards,
society galas, musicals, jazz clubs, country clubs, bars, mansions, backyards, theaters, concert venues, you name it, I am there...Expand for more
to play the bass, mon.
I've done gigs with John Denver, Bobby Vinton, The Drifters, The Coasters, Barbi Benton, Axe, and recorded with the New Orleans legend Dr. John.
Speaking of Dr. John...
John and Janet Elway once showered me with praise & adulation after a performance...John Elway actually stopped his conversation with Dan Quayle (of all people) to shake my hand and introduce me to his wife. They both wouldn't stop telling me how 'awesome' I was, and John enthusiastically signed my Broncos bass for me. Imagine that,
John Elway telling ME that I was "awesome".
Whatever...it was still cool!
Wherever people celebrate, I make a living being there, to help them party. I get paid to be the bass player, BY FAR the funnest musical instrument there is to play. What a life it is...the dream life!
Although I graduated from Golden High after moving from the B.C. area in my Junior year, I DO miss my friends from Bear Creek, Carmody & Peiffer Elem.
You know who you are!
I'm married, and I have a remarkable daughter born in 1991, she's a 4.0 student, a State Track medalist and is a real formidable young woman. Ten times smarter than I ever was, she's going to School of Mines next fall on scholarship!
