Bob's Story
Life
After Graduation it was off to college and one short year after leaving Lakeshore, Joann Kultala (Class of 72) and I were married. We celebrate our 38th anniversary in June 2012.
I finished GMI with an ME/EE Engineering Degree, and was off to Harvard for an MBA. Boston was great and an interesting change from life in Michigan. We lived in the "suburbs" of Boston (Arlington Heights and Waltham) and learned about Mass Transit and crazy driving. We enjoyed the history, culture, music, weather, etc.
Back to GM in Michigan, and an intended brief tour of the Manufacturing side of the business. Twenty years later I was leading the Manufacturing Engineering group in Powertrain Assembly after having been in just about every job one can hold in a manufacturing organization.
In the interim, Joann and I began a "hobby" showing pedigree cats in the Cat Fancier's Association. A salted peanut that lasted from 1985 to 2001 and led us to leading the Breed Council for over ten years, showing two cats to National Wins, ten Distinguished Merit cats, over 60 Grands, and a respected breeder o...Expand for more
f Orientals worldwide.
In 2001 I was offered an executive position in Europe with a new Joint Venture (Fiat-GM Powertrain). I was the Product Manager for the Family One product team and responsible for a $1bn world-wide product line. The product team has facilities in Germany, Hungary, Korea, China, Brazil and Mexico.
Joann and I lived in Schlossborn, Germany with our 7 Oriental Cats. For the Geographically Challenged (and I include myself in this category) Schlossborn is 45km (30 miles) northwest of Frankfurt Germany. The home is on the side of a mountain, the view is spectacular, and we were 50 meters from the quiet of the untouched wilderness.
In January 2007 I returned to Michigan to lead the GM Electric Propulsion Execution Teams. In the last 60 months we've launched our 1st and 2nd Generation BAS (Belt Alternator Starter) system, called eAssist; our 2Mode RWD Hybrin in the Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade, Silverado and Avalanche, and the Voltec system in the Chevy Volt.
