Bob's Story

Let's have a little fun before I get into what I've been up to (Totally plagerized!). I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing ice. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I translate ethnic slurs for Cuban refugees, I write award-winning operas, I manage time efficiently. Occasionally, I tread water for three days in a row. I woo women with my sensuous and god-like trombone playing. I can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed, and I cook Thirty-Minute Brownies in 20 minutes. I am an expert in stucco, a veteran in love and an outlaw in Peru. Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I play bluegrass cello...I am the subject of numerous documentaries. When I'm bored, I build large suspension bridges in my yard. I enjoy urban hang-gliding. On Wednesdays, after school, I repair electrical appliances free of charge. I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless bookie. Critics worldwide swoon over my original line of corduroy evening wear. I don't perspire, I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail...Last summer I toured New Jersey with a travelling centrifugal force demonstration...My deft floral arrangements have earned me fame in international botany circles. Children trust me. I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I once read Paradise Lost, Moby Dick, and David Copperfield in one day and still had time to refurbish an entire dining room that evening. I have performed several covert operations for the CIA. I sleep once a week; when I do sleep, I sleep in a chair. While on vacation in Canada, I successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who had seized a small bakery. The laws of physics do not apply to me. I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. Years ago, I discovered the meaning of life but forgot to write it down. I have made extraordinary four-course meals using only a mouli and a toaster oven. I breed prize-winning clams. I have won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open heart surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis. But I have not yet gone to my 40 year, high school reunion! Ok, seriously, IF you're still reading: I went to UCI, doubling in Computer Science and Economics. The tragic combination of losing my mother my junior year in high school, and my brother my junior year in college drastically changed my life. Greatly influenced by my more mellow friends, the type-A personality you may remember that had to be among the top in the class, largely pushed by my mom, has gone to smell the roses. I branched out in so many directions since high school. I have NO regrets and am happy with the life I've lived. I felt at 40 I'd already experienced more than most will, and long ago accepted death. That moment may have happened on a cliff side in the midst of a 1,000 f...Expand for more
t climb in Idyllwild in the midst of a lightning storm, after seeing a 50 yard wide sheet of lightning from less than a quarter mile away. Breathtaking! As of about 4 years ago, my dad died, leaving me alone from the family I grew up with. Now I have my cousins who are half way across the country, and my two kids, but I'm the only survivor of my immediate family. I'm sure I'm not the only one in that position, but when you find youself in that situation, it's quite sobering. I was married for 13 years, and have two incredible kids as a result. Jackie, 28 is currently married and pregnant and a Civil Engineer and President of the State of Louisana American Concrete Institute. "Little" Jim 6'7" graduated from University of Oregon over 2 years ago and is studying and taking the tests to become an Actuary. Since FHS, I've learned to play guitar, gotten better on keyboards, and picked up half a dozen other instruments. I finally got to fulfill my childhood dream of playing ice hockey - played for 3 years from age 33 - 36, culminating in playing on a team that took 3rd in the state. That was when I got into rock climbing. WHY I didn't take Dave Pflueger up on his many invites - well, it was my sanity talking to me. Too many weekends he'd tell me of falls he took, and it didn't exactly 'appeal' to me, but an actual class where they teach you the ropes (literally) and you realize that the fear people have of it come from the ignorance of not knowing the rope system. I got into doing bonsais towards the end of college, and still enjoy them. I have several from those days, over 30 years old. Yes, I think in my previous lives, one I was a bonsai master. The most recent one I've discovered is I must have been a fly fisherman, based on how quickly I picked up the casting at a clinic I went to just this last weekend at Mile Square park. Watching that line float around in the air is absolutely mesmerizing, or as someone I work with would call it, 'cat hypnosis'. Currently living alone, and am slowly working on my 'Great Adventure' ala "Lost in the Wild", only I plan on being a VERY comfortable 'rubber tramp' as they defined in the book and movie, with social security and a pension. I'm slowly adding capabilities to myself, and my prized, one of a kind, grey market, '85 VW Westfalia "Club Joker" (upgraded Euro version). I've modified the front bumper to carry my Husqvarna, and fully loaded, including water, firewood, and bbq on the back, I go up the Cajon and other sumits at 80mph with the help of my Subaru flat 6 and Hurst shifter (I'm not BSing! I call this the 'coolest vehicle on the planet', and it certainly blows away my '67 Camaro!). I've added: power inverter so I can take keyboards with me (besides just guitar or Indian flute), tankless water heater/shower, bbq mounted on the rear, a foldable Oru kayak,, now fly fishing gear. On the docket are solar panels (I'm upgrading what the previous owner had on there), and water purification so I can go completely off-grid. Destination: lands north! When? When I retire (62?), or when I next get laid off (I'm in Aerospace), whichever happens first! I may just have to post some pics now! take care, bob
