Bob's Story

Following graduation, I went to Cal Poly as a Landscape Architecture major for one year before being classified 1A for the draft. I enlisted in the Navy and served from 1966 - 1970. Did two tours in Vietnam flying coastal partols. After my discharge, I went back to school in Oregon and got my AA from Linn-Benton Community College, and BS and MS from Oregon State University in Botany & Plant Pathology. Was on staff in the Plant Pathology Dept at UC Berkely for a couple of years and then went to Colorado State University where I received my PhD in Soil Microbiology. Worked for USDA-ARS in ...Expand for more
California for 5 years before moving to Washington where I worked for a private plant disease diagnostic lab for a couple of years. I also worked for the Kitsap County Health Dept for a few years before starting a commercial specialty mushroom farm which my wife and I ran for 10 years. We shut down the farm in 2001 and moved to Texas where I was a senior scientist for a microbial biotechnology company for 12 years before retiring in 2014. We moved back to Washington State where I have an agricultural consulting service, but mostly fish, hike, backpack and just enjoy the Pacific Northwest.
