Bob's Story

School I spent my grade 9 - 12 years at Woodroffe High and enjoyed my time there a lot. I enjoyed the social aspect in the classroom, school politics and most of my teachers. High School in particular was a part of my life that I look back at fondly and with good memories.. I would do it all over again. What would surprise my high school classmates? -- that I think of high school and them with fond memories! I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up and that was probably influenced by a couple of my favourite teachers growing up. My family and friends thought that was an idea career choice, knowing what they knew of me. Some of my favourite teachers were influences in that direction. At my High School reunion in 2010 (schools 60th) I had the chance to meet my favourite Woody teacher - Peter Norman (History). His teaching style + the curriculum really motivate me to want to learn more. I also got to connect with many friends from my class. One classmate I was glad to reconnect with was Howard Allen, because he was a good friend whom I lost touch with. My Life As it turns out, I did not end up being a teacher. I started my career in Recreation, stemming from my summer job while I was going to school. I moved into the Human Resources profession quite by accident and spent most of my work career in HR, in both private and public employer environments. Short of being a high paid athlete or a successful medical doctor, I've enjoyed my career pursuits. What do I enjoy most? - I enjoy participating in active sports - hockey, softball, golf; watching movies; and walking with my wife and dog. Who is my favourite female?....that will remain a secret between me and my diary, nice try. My family is important to me - Vanessa (spouse); children Chris, Julie, Alex; sisters Sharon & Sandra, brothers Eric & Jim. I enjoy being with my friends, a list that is too numerous to mention. Bobby Orr & Tom Watson are my favourite athletes. Born in Moncton, I grew up I living in Fredericton & Ottawa. As an adult, I've lived in Aylmer, Quebec, Ottawa & surrounding area (including Barrhaven & Carleton Place), then moved to BC (living in Mill Bay, Victoria & Prince George). After retirement I moved to Mexico and after 8 years there, I am now living in Crofton. What's my biggest surprise? My biggest surprise is the road that life leads you down. Life doesn't always turn out the way you plan. However, you adjust and move forwar...Expand for more
d. But I can say I truly love my life's path and wouldn't change it in very many ways. What have I learned from being a parent? Children grow up fast and time goes by in a flash. I'm so very proud of my children. They have become great human beings with their own unique personalities, traits and values. I'm proud of them and what super people they have become. In the dream world, if I won a lottery, I'd give half of it to my direct family, then spend the rest on travel, seeing the world and supporting my favourite charity - boys and girls club and living a comfortable life travelling the world. To be truly happy I would be living my life the way I am now - with Vanessa, my kids and be financially independent to live comfortably. I don't know what happened to my 'first crush' but I would like to find out. My best friend would tell you I'm adventuresome, trustworthy, easy-going. I think people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as someone they would like to get to know better (no, I'm not stuck on myself). My style of dress is what I would class as conservative, not trend setting, but a follower of fashion, neat & clean. I'm an 'all occasion' dresser. I like to dress casually, but I also like to dress formally and everything in between. My first job (early teens) was delivering newspapers, where I got paid 2 cents a daily paper to deliver them (okay, but dinosaurs are still older). What I remember most about it was delivering the early morning Globe & Mail and having to deliver to a funeral parlour that had a door that opened automatically. At 5:30-6:00 in the morning that was eerie, especially when no one was at the front desk. My most unusual job was operating a very old 'one arm' printing press for a wheel-chair bound small business owner. He did the type setting and I did the I love hockey and played it competitively, most of my life. I have golf and baseball trophies and baseballs signed by the players on the little league team I coached and from my team of employees in PG that have sentimental value to me. Childhood memories - Camping trips with the family when we drove back to New Brunswick each summer to visit relatives. Accidentally starting a fire in a coal storage yard, when a friend and I were lighting off fire crackers. Building tree forts with my brother and close friends. Bailing hay with my best friend in my summers back East, while visiting my grandparents. I love my life.
