Bob's Story
Family
I met my wife, Eileen, in late-June 1967; 27 days later we were married. It's been 49( wonderful years and still married and best friends! I have 4 kids, born from 1968 to 1975, 7 grandkids ranging from newborn to 23 years old, and one great-granddaughter (Audrey) who was born on 10/12/2012.
College
In 1969 I started at Skyline College in San Bruno, CA. I finished and got my AA degree in aircraft maintanance in 3-semesters, then transferred to San Francisco State College (it was still a college then). I did my junior year there and started my senior year, but the bottom dropped out of the airline industry and I was furloughed along with 2,700 other mechanics at United Air Lines maintenance base. I went into real estate and never finished my senior year.
Career
3 years Army Infantry. Aircraft mechanic with United Air Lines from 1965 to 1972. Real estate broker since then. Owned my own company in No. California for 13 years then sold it and took a position as a Regional Manager for a Bay Area company. We moved to Oro Valley, AZ (just NW of Tucson)in 1999 and moved to the West Phoenix area (Surprise, AZ) in 2010. We moved back to Oro Valley in 2013, and plan to stay here. I've been fortunate to have 7 books published by Thomson South Western Publishing/Cengage Publi...Expand for more
shing, now OnCourse Publishing, and I'm currently working on two novels and another real estate book. I manage a 45-person real estate office for Keller Williams, and I'll quit real estate when it stops being fun, but right now I still enjoy it.
Military
I went into the Army right after high school (actually a few weeks before) and was assigned to the 9th Manchu Infantry Division at Fairbanks, Alaska. -76 degrees in a tent was an "interesting" lifestyle! I made Yukon Command Soldier of The Year while I was there.
My last year was with Combat Developments Command at Ft. Ord, CA and Hunter Liggit Military Reservation. We did many different experiments for battle-related issues in Vietnam.
I just missed Vietnam twice. I had 10-days left on active duty and president Johnson sent down a directive that all Infantry soldiers with 30-days or more time remaining were extended for a year. My entire platoon was sent to Vietnam within 6-weeks after I was discharged and two of my friends are on The Wall in D.C. Then in 1968 I received a knock at the door and was handed a certified letter from the Department of Defense that ordered me to pack a bag and be ready to report to Ft. Ord with 24-hours phone notice. The call never came, which was good as my wife was over 8-months pregnant.
