Bob's Story

Hi, folks. Well, right up the road a piece is the jolly ole town of Roxbury and in May 1984, just before we graduated, a Junior, Craig Greenert, told me of this race series they had every Saturday. I went there, placed 2nd the first race I completed, with our own Dante' Pappano winning that race and from there, I just ran it every week, won 10 that year, 12 the next, 6 the next and then my final 3 the year after that. But on my third year, New Milford High's own Dr. Kershner, the then head-director, handed me the stop-watch and clapboard and said, "Here, Bob. Take over." Since then, I have taken the series to incredible levels of achievement. My winning the none-conformance male of the class award was evidence with my turning 2 of the races into championship races and they took place in summer & autumn, with the first woman to complete either of the first ones the first year was none other then our class's own Donna Lemos, who I wanted to vote for Home-coming Queen. Does anyone remember that? Well, on a sad note, she & I were going to go out together when she got better and needless to say, that did not happen. I'm sure we all keep the memory of Donna in a secret place in our hearts, I know I do. Anyway, at the holiday season in 1986, I took all the paperwork from all the races kept by me and Dr. Kershner, giving everyone points based on position, like 20 participants, #1 got 20 points and on down to #20 getting 1 point. All points were added up for the year and that is how I know I was Champion in 1984 & 1985, but that is just the beginning, because on our 30th year, we started having a Hall Of Fame, of which I was inductee #15 overall & 5th in the 2nd induction ceremony. But it gets better, because coming back to our 25th reunion will not only be a Hall Of Famer, but a 2 time w...Expand for more
orld-champion. I know what you are thinking, that I am getting cocky like our "So called class-hero who turned out in college to be a big zero, John Nduko", but no and let me explain. 3 things makes our annual season champions, both male & female, world champions and they are; #1.Our races are available to and the invitation is open to everybody and anybody anywhere in the world; #2.Our races are covered every week on a world wide web & #3.Recently, our races got world wide coverage in the bible of running, Runner's World Magazine. Now, we give to a number of charities every year, including grants to up to 6 High School track & X-Country teams for whatever they tell us they would use the grants to help their team. We also give to help find cures for diabetes, cancer & autism. When the Hurricane Katrena came about, we helped along with Macy's for that cause, plus many others. We have a Thanksgiving Day Race, a marathon, half marathon and marathon relay team competation and more. We keep mighty busy and we love it. Other then that, I work at Macy's and other then having been engaged at one time, having run marathons and 50 kilometer races, plus over 700 other races, being an Uncle of 6 boys & just recently to 1 girl, life is grand nonetheless & seeing you all at the reunion was great. With the exception of loudmouth Tim Bagley opening a sour can of worms(& I know many will recall what that was, which lead me to getting the none conformance award, incedently)every moment at the reunion was fantastic! Thanx all for a great evening and the next day was great at Harrybrook as well. Everyone evolved in putting together the reunion, let me help any way I can, for I want to be involved more now. I still live in New Milford, so I'm always at homebase. Best of luck and wishes to all. Peace!
