Bob's Story
Semi-retired to the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. Father of one Peace Corps Volunteer, two Phi Beta Kappas,one mother, one lawyer, one doctor, and one Buddhist Monk. Now collecting grandchildren.
I tried to retire from the practice of orthopaedic surgery in 2004 (specialized in total joint replacement in Chicago); but I found I needed my patients more than they needed me, and that doing nothing was harder than it looked; so I returned part-time and have been serving an economically depressed population here in Appalachia for the ...Expand for more
past 5 years. Will attempt to hang up the scalpel again in the near future.
Am married to the girl I fell in love with in 1968, without whom I would be lost. Almost was, in fact--snatched from the jaws of death last March at #3 son's wedding by some quick-thinking young guests who had learned CPR in med school. Am fully recovered (and healthy) without residual. Learned nothing of note from the experience.
