Bob's Story
Hi Everyone,
Jeez, it's been a long time since we graduated from Woodside High School. I've been living in Berkeley for the past 30 years, so that doesn't seem too far away in physical miles. But, of course, I've lived in a lot of other places, and had a lifetime full experiences (both good and not so good) between then and now (as have the rest of you, I'm sure).
What are the simple facts?
Graduated from UC Berkeley in History.
Drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War (remember the lottery?). Spent a year studying Japanese and Chinese Mandarin at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, then assigned to work at an Army base in Northern Japan for two years. Honorably discharged in 1975.
Attended Harvard Business School, graduating with MBA in 1978.
Returned to live in Berkeley for the rest of my life. (They'll bury me somewh...Expand for more
ere around here).
Married with two kids. Wife, Aihwa, is a professor of Anthropology at Cal. Son, Ben, recently graduated from UC Santa Cruz and is now back home and gainfully unemployed. Daughter, Pamela, is starting her freshman year, also at UC Santa Cruz.
I am now retired, after working for the past 30 years in the high tech (software) industry - mainly in sales and marketing positions - that had me travelling all over the country and all over the world for various assignments.
Nowadays, I have more time to play my cello (still going strong after all these years), go backpacking, take pictures, design and build websites, and catch up on my long, long reading list (Just finished Joan Didion, Norman Mailer and Michael Chabon).
Life has been, and is, great and I hope that it finds all of you equally busy, and happily engaged in whatever.
