Bob's Story
Life
My Spouse
Part of my career with the Woolworth Co. was managing Woolworth stores.
When I was appointed to my first store in Fort William as Manager I went into the store to introduce my self to my Office Manager and Personnel Manager. When I went into my office, there she was sitting in my chair with her feet up on my desk. A year later we were married.
My Kids
I have three girls and one boy.
All are married and have given me seven
grandchildren. Five boys and two girls.
My oldest and youngest daughters live in
Thunder Bay with my wife and I. My second oldest daughter lives in Winnepeg, and my son lives in Bolton
My career with the Woolworth Col. took my family and I from Vancouver to Halifax with stops in between in Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, Fort William (Thunder Bay), Toronto, Ottawa, Dartmouth/Halifax. In those relocations we bought and sold eleven houses and two luxury condo's. Most of those transfers were with the Woolco Dept Store Division of the F.W.Woolworth Co. as General Manager of the stores located in the cities mentioned above. They were an excellent company to work for. Wal-Mart was another story. In retirement, life has been very full. Back playing hockey (goal-tender), taking flying lessons (at touch and go), trapping, taking piano lessons, taking odd jobs, home projects, hobbies(modelling CPR steam locomotives in HO scale and my home work-shop).

A NEW CHAPTER IN OUR LIVES

ears and then moved back to Winnipeg, where Paulline and I are now living.
A little over a year ago Pauline had two heart attacks and was rushed to Hamilton's Health Sciences Centre where quadruple by-pass surgery was performed. I very nearly lost her. She had a bizzare trip down. The medi-copter flew her to Hamilton. When they arrived there ,there wasn't an ambulance available that was equipped with the proper apparatus to safely transfer her to the hospital. She was flown back to Thunder Bay, put back in the hospital there so they could stabilize her, then brought an aircraft in from Red Lake and flew her back to Hamilton. By then a proper ambulance was available. Her surgery that was scheduled for 8.00 am had to be resheduled to 3.00 pm in the afternoon because of the extremely stressful experience.
That is why we are now living in Winniper. My second oldest daughter,Caroline, asked us to move in with her since a year earlier she had lost her husband to lukeumia. We thought on that one for a year before making a decision. Finally we decided to make the move and there have been no regrets. We sold the house in Thunder Bay in 10 days, made arrangements with the moving company and a month later we were here.
Because of the move I didn't get to play hockey this year. I played in an oldtimers league here for five years so I have lots of contacts to call for next winter.
Winnipeg is a great city. Lots of culture. Many activities to take advantage of and enjoy. I don't think Pauline and I will be making anymore moves. But then the saying goes "Never Say Never."
