Bob's Story

My current age is 59. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be moldy. I was so completely right. After moving to Washington in 1967 I attended high scholls in Everett, Seattle and Lopez Island in the San Juan Island. Lopez High school had 112 kids from K to 12th, 12th had six girls and three guys in it, got pretty interesting at times. ummm if I only knew then what I know now. Anyway after high school I moved to Edmonds where I was able live at the fire department, rent free, and attend college in Everett majoring in law enforcement, If anyone rememebers back than you'll remember the job market fell apart and I was soon looking for work.. I entered the Air Force and stayed at it for 5 years 7 months 3 days and two hours. Actually enjoyed it , well most of it. I got to travell from Texas to Thailand to Colorado and on to England. Loved Thailand and really hope to return there someday. The people are true friends, have fantastic customs, beautiful scenery, and I can't say enough good things about that place. Upon returning to the states I looked up a old girlfriend and the first words out of my mouth were, "I did'nt come back to get married. Guess what happened six weeks later. They say you could see my pants legs shake thirty feet back from the alter. A few months later a baby boy was born, 9 lbs. 5 oz. and 21 1/2 inches long. I've never caught a fish that big. But that kid was to become a real joy as he grew up. Went on to England and stayed there for 2 1/2 years. the wife returned to the states after a little more than a year. and by June 1976 I was ready to return to civilian life. Came back to the states and stayed married for another five years. Air Force was good duty, Recieved 2 Good Conduct medels and a Distinqueshed Service medal, Recieved training in Security, law enforcement, patrol dog, sentry dog, drug dog, investigations and was offered a job with OSI, thats the Air Force's FBI. Sometimes I think I should have taken it. Upon returning to civilian life I returned to law enforcement around Oakland, California. and after four years got out of there in ord...Expand for more
er to return to the northwest. some of the more colorful people I met while in Calif. was Sonny Barger of the Hells Angels, a few of his associates another was Patty Hearst and her two co-hearts, Bill and Emily Harris, those two were phyco's.left that department with some good stories. Upon returning to the northwest I soon joined the San Juan County Sheriff's Department, Became a single parent and ran for Sheriff, lost that election and stayed a deputy for close to six years. Funny thing about small towns... If they don't really know you they will make things up about you. My boy went to live with his mother in California. and I returned to the greater Seattle area, drove a semi-truck for six months, childhood dream, and than found a job in the grocery field. Got my kid back and he had growing pains. So he was off to make his mark in the world. Stayed single for eleven years until a mutual friend intoroduced me to a 5 ft. 7 in. greeneyed redhead that wore levis nice enough to turn my head and the rest is history. Been togeather for 18 years with our 17 aniversary coming up in June. She had three kids, Brien, the oldest past away five years ago this march. Josh and his wife have returned to school studing to become medical assistanants and Megan, the youngest has graduated from Pacific Hawaii Univercity with a BS degree in Marine Biology with hopes of going on to veteranian school. Soooo they all live with us again, Josh's daughter is my best buddy, unless grandma or someone her own size shows up and than I become chopped liver. But she is the sweetest little thing you ever saw. and I'm looking forward to retirement in two to five years,, figure I'll go back to school and learn woodworking and photography. As long as the wife keeps working I'll clean house and plan our vacations. I was onced asked the following question, "When you die and see God, what would you like him to say upon seeing you?" my responce..." Damn, took you long enough!" and have that followed thru with a high five. Salutations to one and all. I hope your lives have been as interesting and challenging as mine has.
