Bob's Story
I moved to Daytona (actually Ormond) in summer '65. I reluctantly moved away (to Houston, Tx) at end of summer in '68. While in Florida, I lived on N. Halifax, near the Amsden Rd. beach access, so that was my local surf spot. The 3 years in Florida comprised my formidable years of 7th thru 9th grade. My best friends were Gary Hansard, Bill Harrington, and Jeff Horstmeyer. We spent a lot of fun days surfing (and carousing) together. Some good school friends were Mickey Wells, Ken Broussard, and Brad Russell. Some of my female friends were the "Rainey twins" Val Demos, and my best girl, Sara Chew. I was pretty shy and reserved, and still am! Other names I remember.... Dave Bassett, the Vedder boys, Joan Grasso ( good friend), and many others that if I saw their pictures, I would remember.
Now, to Texas. I arrived 2 day...Expand for more
s before school started, at Clear Creek High in League City, Tx. 1968. NASA ( Houston Space Center) was exploding. I spent 10th thru 12th grade here, and still live in the area, in spite of a career in Energy that took me to places far and wide.
Sincemy arrival in Houston, I graduated with BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and MBA in International Finance (boring...huh.?). Spent most of my career in Petro-Chem and Energy sectors. I retired (at the ripe old age of 56) in 2009. I have 3 children, and by June 2015, will have 7 grandkids. My second wife (Darlene) and I just celebrated our 20th anniversary. I am blessed, happy, still surf, in good health, and miss my Daytona/Ormond friends. I have been back a few times, as recent as 2013, but have not looked up any old friends. If anyone is ever in Houston, look me up.
