Bob's Story

I was born on April 19, 1950 to parents that, as I learned later, were not on the same page! My father was one who ruled with an iron fist, and criticised everything he didn't understand. My mother, on the other hand, had an extremely rough life as she grew up, moving from one foster relative's house to another, since her mother died when she was young, and her father couldn't handle the responsibility of raising a child. She wanted her kids to have a better life than she'd had. Because of the differing philosophies coming from my parents, by the time I reached high school, I was a messed up kid, to say the least. On the one hand, I had the intellectual capacity to do well, as was demonstrated in ninth grade english with Mr. Sweers, when I was one of 4 students who worked ahead, and finished the entire year's work by the end of the first semester. On the other hand, I was socially messed up. While I had been extended friendship from several of the more academically minded students, I was so insecure that I turned away from their kindness, and, much to my shame, aligned myself with those who were more like my father. That mentality determined the direction of my life for several years, including qu...Expand for more
iting school half way through my junior year, only to come back the next fall, and quit again half way through my senior year (which would have included me in the class of '69. I eventually completed school in 1971 in night school. In the meantime, I did a lot of foolish things, some of which hurt innocent people, and demonstrated my own immaturity. Beginning in the fall of '72, I started taking classes at what is now Cornerstone University. I completed 5 semesters of study there, but couldn't decide what direction to go. Having met a charming young lady there, we married, and I entered the workforce. I spent the next 25 years in the welding/custom fabrication field until my doctor told me I needed to get into a clean-air environment if I wanted to be breathing at age 65. I took him seriously, and, after having been laid off from a welding job in 2007, I entered the arena of over-the-road truck driving, which I am continuing to this day. It has it's drawbacks, in that, I don't see my family as often as I want, but it puts bread on the table. I have 3 delightful children, 2 of which I have the privilege of singing with once in a while, and all of which are so much better that I was at their ages.

Deep down inside I'd like to believe this is true...I have my doubts. From some failures there is no healing.
