Bob's Story
My primary reason for being a member of Classmates is that I am on the Marina High School (Huntington Beach) class of 1966 reunion committee. We are always looking for contact info for 1966 alumni in order to inform of events and occasions relating to the school overall and for the year 1966. If you are on Facebook, we invite you to check out the Marina 1966 page at facebook dot com/groups/115363095146775/ (Classmates blocks website URL references) where you may read all of the great discussions about everything Marina 1966. You may also join in on the conversation by asking to join. More about me personally below.
Life, there is a story.
I have been married for 45 years to a wonderful person. Her name is Diane. We were married at the age of 24. It was a good age to make a commitment. We have two children. Our daughter is 41 and works as a vet tech. She has gone back to school and hopes to become a Vet someday. My son is 36 and is currently enrolled in school. She loves animals and he loves computers.
I like to write, especially poetry. You can see a sampling of my efforts at Facebook poet's page here: facebook dot com /visualthoughts%20%20/. Also at my Facebook page/cover photo album where I have poems about photos: facebook dot com /robwal48/media_set?set=a.3365143848925.165050.1279010795&type=3 - as long as I keep my profile public. I welcome friend requests from classmatess, too!
I have worked in a variety of fields, including direct mail, corporate mail in-house fulfillment, customer service, retail and inside print ad sales, and tech support at a major wireless telecommunications provider. This eclectic career, if you will, is the end result of moving multiple times. ...Expand for more
And, I was a basketball gym rat for years.
My wife retired 11 years early in 2002 from teaching (special ed.) due to her M.S. I retired two years early in 2011 due to fatigue issues. We met at Long Beach State, twice actually. The second time I made sure not to let her go home for summer without getting her contact information. She was born in San Jose, CA. I was born in Kansas.
My parents came to Orange County from Kansas in 1956. Wow, what a change since then! Disneyland had orange groves all around it. I went back to school at 50 and earned a BS in Business Administration, Information Services from the University of Phoenix in 2002.
My reason for looking back to H.S. is because I wasn't much involved at the time (school activities) and regret it. I hope to see some of you I knew at Marina H.S. Huntington Beach or Rancho H.S. Garden Grove on the message boards, or perhaps at a reunion.
How do I want be remembered? I think as one who would willingly come to another person's aid. Also someone who has not needed to run a hidden agenda on someone else.
Thanks to my mom, I like to think I have a natural understanding and patience toward other people, and always look for the best in them as that is where commonality can be found and grown. And one important thing, she has always been young at heart, for as long as I can remember. She took an interest in our interests and gave them purpose.
So, I have been lucky with two good women in my life for so long. But I can't forget the young woman and young man that have both graced our immediate family. I only hope some of that good example, inherent in my mom's personality, passes along with the ages. I think so!
