Bobbie's Story

Life I have been working in the medical field since graduation until 2010 when I retired. During that time spent alot of time doing continuing education to maintain my LVN License. I would like to spend more time with my grandchildren (20) and 6 great grand kids. Still living in Northern California although, I was living in Texas from 2001-2004. After leaving Alturas, I started working at Sisters of Mercy(Mercy Medical Center as its called now) in Redding and stayed there for 34 years. Then moved to Texas working at a great little book store and then doing data entry for Metro PCS(cell phones). I challenged the LVN state boards and past, however Texas wanted me to do another 6 months in school. No way, I said after being an LVN for 30 years. When I came back I started at a senior living facility as a nurse/resident services director and then became the resident care director. In June of 2007 I went back to work at Mercy in home health and hospice. In the office of course, talking with doctors and insurance companies. I enjoy getting together once a year with some of my Modoc classmates. Having a mini get together is a very special time to spend with such special people. The only thing is you never get to see everyone. I had planned on retiring at 65 but it seems I will retiring sooner. Boy, does that sound a long way from 1963. I have enjoyed my nursing career working, most of years at Mercy in the emergency room(1971-1991)as a nurse on the night shift. Loved the night shift. I enjoyed that more then ICU, CCU or Medical floors.(1966-1971) I worked air ambulance dispatch still on the night shift(1991-1998) and went to day shift(1998-2001) to do the members...Expand for more
hip program. The best thing about my job in home health and hospice is I finally get weekends and holiday off for the first time in my life. I have 4 kids of my own, Chris, Assistant Fire Chief//EMTat Sierra Army Depott, Tawna is a homemaker and her husband is Modoc Co under sheriff. Eugene is a Paramedic and is now the Fire Chief for Cottonwood Fire District. Quentin worked with the mentally challenged but now works for California Caltrans. Do I sound proud well yes I am. My 2 step sons live in Missouri and Texas. Daran's a mechanic and a good one. Dannetta my step daughter passed away in Feb this year 2013 after battling colon cancer for 3 yeas. So, you can see why I have so many grandkids. When you have worked at the same job for so many years not much excitement to say for 40+ years. My hobbies are crocheting and I just enjoy riding around looking at the country side. I have joined the ladies auxillary for VFW which has gotten me involved in Relay for Life to fight cancer. I use to volunteer for alot of things at Mercy however the most important thing I volunteered for 10 years(1991-2001) doing a national program called ENCARE(Emergency Nurses Cancel Alcohol Related Emergencies)alcohol awareness program) I even got to go to Modoc and Surprise Valley High Schools. Working in ER for 20 years was a real eye opener. After moving to McCloud we joined the grange and recently joined the McCloud firemens assoication. I enjoy hearing from classmates. Remembering ole times is fun. Just celebrated our 50th class reunion and it was so much fun. It is so wonderful keeping in touch with classmates and hearing what has been going on with them and about their families.
