Robert's Story

Life Howdy, living on my 41' ketch exodus, working traveling, enjoying life again : ) oh yea... Hope every one that i know and remember is happy, loved, and feeling secure. Love Bobby Mann : ) Workplace My work place, shall I begin with the past and what I have done or how my professions came to be. Or should I post a resume? Let me just begin at the beginning. At 15 took a food preparation job at the carriage house restaurant, worked under an Italian Chef and his wife. Rudolf and Carmen. (disclaimer, please forgive my spelling) Rudolf was a driving man who taught me the basics in food prep. Had me chopping 6 bunches of parsley with a razor sharp knife yelling faster, faster until i finally got up to speed with a couple of cuts hear and there. Then he handed me another chefs knife to place in the same hand and said there now you can do it twice as fast. That was the beginning of my cooking chefs profession. I was a chef at the Keene country club, Christmas Trees Inn, Oceangate restaurant in Maine, and finally made it to the big time, so I thought, after a half dozen or so interviews they hired me to be executive chef of the Winston Salem Hilton. They had just put a few million into the place and wanted a different image. So the chef at the time was demoted under me? ah oh, his name was Oscer Macall. the day i was introduced to the kitchen staff there were 35 people lined up against the wall one of them was white, 34 were black, I am not prejudice I want you to know that from the start, some of my good friends were black while growing up. As i walked through the kitchen door I heard a voice coming from one of the staff who said "here comes the great white hope" : )... Ac...Expand for more
tually we all got along very well and was friends with a few of the staff. I had to manage the entire she-bang. everything. sometimes their was 3 banquet halls holding 300 people a dining room holding 175 people running all at once. I worked 100 hrs a week and practically lived there, ice carving etc. Oh I left the food prep job at the carriage house restaurant when Rudolf and Carmen were having an argument and Carmen stabbed Rudolf in the arm with a boning knife,(kind of like a fillet knife). Cooking can be an intense profession, not a place to work with your wife i guess. In between the Christmas Trees Inn job and the Hilton. We purchased a 1936 31' wooden sail boat which i rebuilt. Thus starting a boat building repairing profession. through that i ended up doing custom carpentry in houses, oak counter tops etc, and all the rest that goes with it. I had 6 employees and was expanding until either pres. Regan or Bush senior eliminated the second home tax right off, which included boats and homes. January no calls laid off all my help. sold the 31' boat bought the boat i have now a 41' ketch which i also rebuilt, worked for Caterpillar marine diesel for 3.5 yrs, started my own diesel electrical systems marine business. did really well built up a clientele of 250 to 300 customers, went through divorce plan on visiting family in the north, NH. between the relatives they own camping land with streams, a lake and place to fish with my great nieces and nephews, my daughters, son, and enjoy life and worry less. Does that cover it? So remember fiddler on the roof? "if i was a rich man, I would dilly dilly dally all the day" In nature and with loved ones. signing off peace, Bobby
