Karen's Story

Life Karen Sue Parker. I have been married 3 times and had the last names of Shipp, Kielty, and now Smith. I have 2 boys, and am currently a housewife. For 20 years of my life I lived on an 18 wheeler truck with my current husband driving 48 states and Canada. I have been in every state and over 3 million miles registered on this body. We currently live in Scottsburg .Oregon to be near my son Mike who is very ill. My husband Bob is 75 and still driving Long Haul full time. As some of you know I was adopted at an early age and I searched for my biological parents and found them, also to my great surprise I am the oldest of 24 children all of us ended up in orphanages (some adopted others weren't.)My birth name as it turned out was Shirley Lee Jones. I have located all my brother's and sister's except for 1 sister in Italy . Most of the family are half-brother's and half-sister's . I have 1 whole (same Father and Mother)brother and 1 whole sister that were adopted with me. I have lived in many states including California, Florida, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Ohio, Tennessee, New York, and Texas . I also lived in Gamboa, Panama in Central America. I have moved a lot in my lifetime which made it hard for my reunion class to catch up with me. When I was 6 and living in Gamboa, Panama we lived in a home on stilts due to the jungle ,wild animals and bugs of a rather large size. We overlooked the Panama Canal and watched the ocean liners go by, our view of Calebra Cut (name has since been changed) was beautiful especially at night. There was also a one way bridge that led to Panama City from Gamboa (the bridge is still there). Now that area has been turned into a hi...Expand for more
gh priced resort. The thing I remember most was going out in the ocean for a week or two at a time on my Dad's party boat to the Perles Islands. Fishing the Perles Islands and going ashore in our dingy for a picnic and catching the many colored fish in the sea ponds. What fun as there were no other people, tourist hadn't discovered it yet From Panama we moved to Florida and bought a farm. Unfortunatly my Dad knew nothing about farming except the idea, so we had to sell and move to sunny California where I attended Horace Mann then George Washington High where I have my happiest memories. Then on to Pasadena Nazarene College. I was able later to attend my 10th class reunion but after that I lost touch and was never able to attend any following reunions. Thank heavens for the computer and finding Classmates so I was able to reconnect with several old friends and find out about our 50th class reunion. I am still at 67 going out on the road in an 18 wheeler for a month and a half at a time, I guess there must be some gypsy in me as I love to see the country..even in the winter ! I miss my dearest friend Virginia Sciuto who died of cancer a few years back. She and her twin sister Florence attended George Washington High the same time I did and I still am in touch with her and my other best friend "Jane Hulsey (Hawkins)" who I called "My Mom" as she was always giving me advice and still does to this day. Jane lives in Wisconsin . It is great to grow old and still have your friends from school that you keep in touch with. I hope the rest of my friends from school remember me as a fun loving type of girl , "old" that I may be now I still have a lot of fun left in me.
