Bobby's Story

Hi Classmates, It is nice to be writing you. It has been a long time since our golden years at BHS. Gosh,I had a lot of fun and have so many great memories of my life in Salisbury,North Carolina. So,what has happened to me since? After BHS,I went to The Citadel on a football scholarship. Being a cadet in the Corp of Cadets was a hoot.hard and rewarding experience. As I was fortunate at BHS to play on two championship teams I had the same good fortune at The Citadel. In 1960 we won the Tangerine Bowl and the next year we won the 1961 Southern Conference Football Championship, both first at The Citadel. You remember my high school sweetheart, Mary, well, we finally married June 10,1962. Afterwards,we went to Ft.Benning,Ga.and a few months later we moved to Fort Myer ,Va. where I served for two years,as a Lieutenant in the 3RD Infantry,US Army Preidential Honor Guard. While there I led platoon escorts for burials at Arlington National Cemetary; performed in parades, ceremonial services and training. I was fortunate to have participated in President Kennedy's State Furneral in 1963 and.later, was involved in Martin Luthers Kings visit to Washington, where he gave his famous, "I had a dream"speech. Two of my children were born in the DC area at Ft. Belvoir,Va.. My daughter, Cassie,is a 1986 Clemson grad, and married with three children. Mattie,my oldest granddaughter,is a freshman at The College of Charleston. The two boys,Robbie and Ben, are top students and athletes. As you know,I was not a top student!! Of course,it was Mary...Expand for more
's genes. My oldest son,Bo,graduated from The Citadel in 1986 and played No.1 on their tennis team. He is married and has two sons. His oldest,'lil' Bo attends The College of Charleston and plays on their tennis team. Wilson,14, is on track with his tennis. My second son,Bill,40 was born in Charleston. He is a graduate of the College of Charleston and lives in McClellanville,SC and has two precious little girls, Lily and Alisa. Mcclellanville is a small village away from the noise of city life right on a salt water creek that goes out to the inland waterway. He is an avid fisherman and hunter, just like Mary's Dad was. His baby girl Alisa, is a cut up like me !!! Finally,my youngest son,JohnDavid, a graduate of the College of Charleston is in Afghanistan. He works there for Shoreline Banks' overseas operations. It is a scary and dangerous assignment and drives Mary and I crazy. God willing,he will be home in September. A benefit is,that ,he gets to travel and has visited many countries in Europe and Asia. Keep him in your prayers. I am sure I have written way to much, but,I felt led to do so. Memories and stories can be so fulfilling and, also,a way to reach out. Please fulfill me with your stories, even the ones with pain and suffering. We can all benefit from each others life experiences. See you at the Reunion. I still love to shag and have fun. I'm a terrible golfer, but, can beat Skeeter and I am gunning for Worth Williamson, the reigning champ. God's Blessing Be Upon All Of You, Crouch "great athlete, cool lover"
