Bonita's Story
Life
(I was called Bonnie when I was in the USAF) My partner Traci and I (together since 1997) have an adopted son we named Oliver Keith, born in 2002. We live just north of Indy with a great life, better than I ever dreamed I could get. Well, it COULD get better if Indiana were to choose to allow marital rights to everyone and not just heteros. But this is not the place for a lecture!
School
I was happiest in Choir and English classes. Looking back, my years in high school were mostly miserable, but I guess most everyone was, being teenagers. I'm glad to be a grownup now.
College
College at ISU, flunking out due to first adult relationship, 6 years USAF then turning 30 and wondering if there was anything left to do? Back home to IVCC and ended up with an Associate's degree in Fine Arts/English. Whew, I sure was glad to have that done and over with.
Workplace
Nurse aide work for near 20 years. FINALLY puters were made user-friendly and in '94 Sally Struthers convinced me to sign up with International Correspondence Schools and take "Learning the PC". From there it was fate that I ended up in Data Entry, with a programmer for a life partner. Lately I am a domestic goddess! Happy Happy Joy Joy
Military
USAF, 23 July 81 to 22 July 87. Six weeks of basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas, 4 months of Air Traffic Control training (long story!), 6 weeks of Medical Service Specialist school (fancy name for Medic), then 3+ years...Expand for more
in Wiesbaden (when it was still West Germany) at the USAF Regional Medical Center, nee USAF hospital, aka "Freedom Hotel", now *alas* a police station. After that, I figured all my great hopes and dreams had been realized - - I'd lived in Europe for 3 years -- but the best was yet to come!
Travel
When I was stationed in Germany, my friends and I visited Austria, Belgium, and Holland as well as Oktoberfest, beer fests, and skiing in the Alps. In the mid-90s, I met lots of folks in Canada, eh? In September of 2001 we got to spend a month in England for Traci's job. Unfortunately, she had to work most of the time, but we were able to spend a few days each in Paris and Rome. I rode trains all over the place. It was the best vacation I have ever had. We left Indianapolis on September 1 and returned on September 30. The 11th was an interesting experience watching from across the Atlantic. That was the latest out-of-country trip, but hopefully we are never finished with our travelling.
Biggest Surprise
In 2007 I discovered that I have ADD! All these years of thinking I was a true original weirdo and some of it is actually a medical condition. It certainly has explained some things I have experienced through the years. As I have gotten older I appreciate drugs
more and more for the magic they make. Fibromyalgia, ADD and even age symptoms are so much easier to tolerate with the right meds. Only the prescription kind, of course! :*)
