Bonnie 's Story

Life Divorced and retired, and loving it! I live in Barstow, CA, . I have 3 children by my first marriage to Gary Figueroa '64,Oakland High, and between 15-20 grandkids including step. I"M SINGLE! I enjoy writing, old movies, baseball, and finding old friends. I worked for the Marine Corps Criminal Investigation Division and was there 23 years. A great job. Hanging out with an old OHS friend here in the Desert, along with a couple of others. Retirement is the bomb! Traveling now and then. FIND ME ON FACEBOOK or MY SPACE under Bonnie Hulse School Went to Glenview Elementary, McChesney Jr. High and finally Oakland High graduating in 1965. Was in a number of clubs and activities, and a sorority called Tonya, which was mostly from Skyline. Loved to hang out at 19 (Kwikway) and Kasper's on MacArthur. Hung around with Diane Patterson and Penny Smith, and Ruth Speelman. Favorite subject was American History, took 3 years of French. Managed to cut at least one class a day in my Senior year.......And I'm totally amazed at how much I learned despite my best efforts NOT to learn. Teachers were Teachers in those days, and they did their jobs. Mostly remember Mr. Lee, Doc Preston, Eileen Murphy and Mr. Hood, and B. Jo Kinnick. It was from B. Jo that I actually found out I could write, and she was an inspiration. Least favorite teacher: Miss Johnson from glenview 3rd Grade....Expand for more
College Attended Merritt college after graduation, but found money from working was better than studying....sounds just like me, huh? Later on in the 80's I attended Barstow College working toward a degree in Earth Sciences. Also took photography for a bit. Mostly I attend school for my own benefit, not working toward any degrees anymore. Workplace Started working at Milen's Jewelers back in 1965, then hired at Oakland Tribune where I worked for Three years. I moved on to work at the Orange County Register, and the Honolulu Times Star. Never stayed anywhere long due to husband's military career. When we moved to Barstow, I divorced and stayed at the Desert Dispatch for 10 years. Then, after 20 or more years in newspapers, I was hired at the Marine Corps Base where I was an Investigative Assistant for 23 years, and also work as the Traffic Court Clerk and Federal Magistrate Court Clerk. Worked part time writing for several local newspapers and freelanced for a couple of national magazines on the side, but really loved my job working for the Marine Corps. Military Husband was in the Marine Corps, so we lived in Oceanside, Carlsbad, Garden Grove, and Hawaii, finally settling in Barstow Ca. He was a gunnery sergeant working at the PX, and in the supply field. I divorced him in 1984 and stayed here in Barstow,He passed away in 1996 from Cancer while living in Oregon.
