Bonnie's Story

Fifty years since graduation does not seem possible. I worked in very rewarding jobs: three different departments of Social Services, in several different capacities. For a very short period of time, I drove truck with my then husband. I have worked in drug and alcohol rehabilitation services, and as an owner/operator of my wheat farm after my mother¿s death. I also worked in correctional services as a residential men¿s counselor. I have also had the pleasure of traveling extensively in the United States and also to Israel two times. I have visited France, Canada and Mexico and lived in Alaska for three months. Most of the rest of the time I have lived within a hundred mile radius from Greeley, except for living in Leadville for a year. Today I spend most of my time with my hobbies of: making pottery in my art studio, growing an assortment of my own fresh vegetables, growing multiple varieties of orchids, and tending my roses (85 at last count). I keep busy, but at times I still miss working. I still keep an active Addiction¿s Counselor License. Working in Human Services is so rewarding. My forth husband and I have six children between us, fifteen grandchildren and three great grand children. We have been married for thirteen years. Durin...Expand for more
g this time, I have had the most trying times of my life except for the death of my son previous to this marriage. I am a nine year survivor of breast cancer and would have never made it without the loving support of my friends and family. I have successfully completed the third attempt at reconstruction. I missed the last class reunion due to the complications to the breast cancer radiation treatments. I have recently had a bout with congestive heart failure. We have an annual party/barbeque in August to celebrate our lives, family and friends. All are welcome: classmates, friends and relatives. This has become the highlight of our year. Every year we lose some people from our list, so seeing everyone is so important to us. We have become acutely aware of how fragile we are. My husband Charlie is a semi-retired carpenter, and continues to remodel, and add on to our home. This year we are having our anual party April 17th for my birthday which is on April 14th. I will be celebrating my 70th birthday plus being a ten year breast cancer survivor. I like to celebrate my survival, but I also remember all the friends and relatives that lost their battle to cancer. I will be attending the Relay for Life of UNC on April 1. I hope to see some of you there.
