Bonnie's Story

Life Life; where do you begin and where do you end?!?! That's a difficult question to answer. But my stage in life now is at a later stage in life. I am now taking care of my father, which is the switch from him taking care of me in the beginning. Mom's gone and my brother is always too busy. So it's me that is here to do what I as a daughter and one who loves Dad will do till I'm no longer needed. But in the meantime, I do have a life that I lead with kids, grandkids and work. As time goes on, I'll add the tidbits that make up my life. I am now divorced after 30 yr. marriage. He had a mid-life crisis(lol). Have 2 daughters(Michele & Suzanne) & 4 grandkids(Derek[25], Mark[21], Josh[16] and Caitlin[13]). I work as an assistant to the director of several programs for the mentally ill.[UPDATE: I have semi-retired as of February 2010, but am in the process of buying a group home for the Developmentally Disabled and hiring staff for it. I guess I need to be in the caregiving mode as it will fill the void from Dad being gone.] Mom passed away on 8/15/2001. I now am living with Dad and taking care of him, he's 90 now. (He thinks I am 16 again!)It's rough, but it's what I feel I am to do(take care of Dad, that is). [UPDATE: Dad passed away on December 1, 2009. That was a VERY hard time for me... I struggled quite a bit to get through that because Dad and I had become sooooo close. He went to be with the Lord and Mom on Mom's birthday, which was fitting. He had his family all around him when he died. Ken was on one side and I was on the other. He had died on the day after Thanksgiving but they resusitated him, which they shouldn't have, but he never came back to us completely. He was on life support and after many tests and some time, I had to make the decision to pull the support and let him pass on. Hardeest decision in my life!!!!! For those out there who care about their loved ones, get a DNR and don't put them through that. Dad has now been gone for 5 months. Doesn't seem like but he has.]Oldest grandson is my heart!!! Love Florida & have a passion for the water and outdoors. Would love to go back and see you all and Lodi again(but only in the summer, hate the cold). It's been 27 yrs since I've been there. [UPDATE: Got back for a family reunion in June of 2007. Was strange seeing the old homestead and town. Sure seems different than I remember. Guess time does that to you. And Dad got to see his home town for the last time and his sisters that were still alive. Glad we took him up.]Still a country gal. My oldest is twice divorced and my youngest is a widow. Her husband was a deputy who got killed in an accident in 2004, 5 months after hurricane "Charley" hit us. "Charley" destroyed my oldest's home and did heavy damage ...Expand for more
to Dad & my home. Lived in a FEMA trailer for 6 months. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhh But we are doing fine now. If you want, you can catch me on facebook. I'm there most every night doing the farms and Yoville. :-) Look for lonedove. My page on Myspace is another one that I used to spend a lot of time on. Don't too much anymore. It has everything about me there. Go to myspace and look for lonedove. Can't put the address in, so this is the next best thing. Would love to talk with you all sometime... My hero is my mother. She was always the strong one and the matriarch of our family. She would never say "I can't do it." She was stronger than any of us in the family when she went blind and as her health went downhill she was still the strong one. If I won $100 million, I'd give enough of it to my family to pay off their debts and set them up for life, then spend the rest on donations to the churches, donations to my agency to help the clients and then build me a log cabin on the beach and pay off my debts. I would finally take that cruise I've always wanted to take. [UPDATE: Going on the cruise this June of 2010 with the kids, grandkids and you won't believe this, I even asked my ex and his wife to go (don't know where my head was at that moment. :-)) I used to dress kind of frumpy due to the fact that I weighed well over 200 pounds. After my ex left me, I love 80 pounds and went down to 120 pounds which was the one and only time I saw myself as skinny. I then leveled out around 140 and weighed that for approximately 10 years. I slowly gained some weight back and put the most on after I quit smoking. During the stage of low weight I wore clothes that someone twice as young as me would wear. I realized that wasn't right and started wearing more mature clothes. But I still don't dress my age. Why should I? I don't feel 64 so I'm not going to dress it. :-) I am proud of the fact that after smoking for 50 years, I finally quit. I have now been smoke free for since August of 2007. I really didn't think I'd be able to do it, but I did. And I am so glad I did. [UPDATE: 5/10/10 I am now in the process of buying a group home for the Developmentally Disabled for 8 and will be taking it over later this year. This will help to fill the void left by Dad and give me something else to do. Seeing the women there and working with them part time now, I know that I want better for them and want to make their lives more enjoyable. Guess this has been my calling all along and I just didn't know it till I lost Mom and Dad both. So, I won't be retiring any time soon. :-) But I will be helping others to enjoy their lives (I hope). Its a big step and an expensive one but I feel God is directing me in that way so here I go... a new life on the horizon...
