Bonnie's Story
Life
Hi yall. Married and divorced twice. No signigicant other at this point in time. Have 4 kids: Robert 29 (married Dawn in 2001), Jake 21 (fiancee Krista, parents to our angel, Landon, born and passed on April 15, 2004), Alex 17, living in Mo. with my parents, Bud and Paula Charlton, and my daughter, Pjae 15. I'm surrogate/stepmother to 4 more: Kalen 15, Candice 13, Richard 11 and Ashley soon to be 10. They keep me very busy.
In the fall of 2004 I started at my local college and am working towards an Associates of Applied Science in Computer Technology. I figured that if I'm going to be on the computer all the time, I may as well get paid for doing it. I'm excited and thrilled to return to school and am doing well this time as I have learned
that since all 4 of my bio kids have some form of ADHD, I was tested and found that, gee, they got it from MOM!!!! I'm on meds and from learning to deal with my children, I'm learning to deal with myself (in some ways).
Life hasn't been a bed of roses but I've always managed to come up smelling like the rose and not the fertilizer!
I've been living for the past 10 1/2 yrs about 18 miles from the Mississppi in N.W. Illinois in a small town and loving every minute of it. At this point in time, I'm not able to work outside the home, so maybe with the continued training in computers, I will be able to start my own home business.
In my "spare" ...Expand for more
time, I enjoy crocheting, cross-stitching, knitting and sometimes gardening besides all the sports the kids are in.
College
Wow! After all these years, I'm attending Highland Community College in Freeport! I just finished my first semester working towards my AAS for Office Technology. Recalling that I refuse to let my children see my h.s. report card, I am not ashamed to tell yall that my GPA is 3.63 for my first semester! Quite a feat compared to h.s. But, now I want to learn and am enjoying the experience. And, NO, I'm not the oldest person on campus! The best part about going back to school at this late stage in life is that I'm not afraid to give answers and I'm not embarrassed if they're wrong like in h.s. With the newness of returning to school and the vast experience of life behind me, I would recommend to all that a few years off before attending college would be ideal as it gives you time for growth and life skills and that all important thing: maturity.
I am looking forward to finishing my classes and being the first in my family to graduate from college, even though it's only a two-year college. I was the first in my family to graduate high school. Maybe some of my children will follow in my footsteps sooner than me and will appreciate the value of a good education.
God bless this wonderful nation that affords us such an opportunity in life.
