Bonnie's Story
Life
See the workplace tab for my spiel. :-))
January 2006 - I retired from my teaching job, and am loving my new adventures. I went on my first cruise in March to the Panama Canal.
I've taken up quilting the last few years and am busy finishing many projects that have been patiently waiting for my attention. I'm wondering now how I ever had time to work.
I'm paying additional attention to my three grandchildren, who are all two hours away in travel time. I now have some time to devote to serious grandmotherism!
Workplace
I started teaching as a full time instructor at Sierra College in 1990. I sometimes still have to pinch myself to make sure IÂm not dreaming of my good fortune. I totally enjoy my work as a teacher, and in the computer field I never get bored! My path to this current state of affairs is a wonderful story.
After years of working in the accounting field, I returned to college in the early 1980s to improve my understanding of computers, which were becoming increasingly important in my profession. I was the typical evening reentry student, filled with trepidation and anticipation after being absent from the academic environment for years. I had attended UC Berkeley for two years right after high school, but had left to get married and raise a family.

hings. After several years of study I decided I would like to stay in this environment, and of course the answer was to join the teaching profession. I chose to concentrate my studies in the computer field because I felt there would be lots of demand for qualified computer teachers.
So I received my Associates degree in Computer Science from Sierra College in 1985, and my Bachelors degree in Computer Science from California State University Sacramento (CSUS) in 1989. I began instructing part time at Sierra College in 1987 and full time in 1990. I continued on academically, working toward a Masters degree in Computer Science from CSUS while teaching full time. I finally earned the MS degree in 1996.
Computer Science is a broad field, and my area of emphasis is in telecommunications and networking. I currently teach courses in Data Communications and computer applications software.
Since I sat in the studentÂs chair for a number of years, I have a special empathy for the student experience, especially that of the reentry student. I never lack enthusiasm for expanding a studentÂs view of this ever-changing electronic medium.
When IÂm not teaching, IÂm busy with a variety of interests. I love to fish, hike, and birdwatch. My family, home, garden and pets take up a lot of my time and attention. I enjoy painting, sculpting and piano playing when I put aside the time. I am also an avid reader.
