Brad's Story

Life Married since '82 to Gail Tipton (Moon Valley class of '77). 2 girls (83, 88), 2 boys (94,95), 2 granddaughters (99, 04). Lived la vida Vegas for 12 years. Active in the Way and ministering the Word. Gotta love it! Praise God! Lived in Bayfield Colorado for a couple of years and then back to Vegas. Currently residing in Concord, NH. Yes, New England. Finally finished my B.S. in Business. Ever notice how things don't quite work out as you envisioned? Workplace Let's see...Began working in manufacturing after dropping out of college. I built walk-in coolers. Became foreman, lost foreman's job, quit. Went to work at UHaul with visions of becoming an accountant...don't ask. Decided that sucked and went back to manufacturing as a foreman, then a department manager, then production control manager after a brief stint in computer programming (that was fun). Could never figure out why I couldn't break into senior management. It never occurred to me that it might be because I was an asshole. Of course, this may not surprise some of you. Moved to Vegas, got saved and got fired from 4 straight jobs. Learned a modicrum of humility. Went to work as a dispatcher at Silver State Materials. Was a natural and loved it...for a while. That got old and I became an a--hole again. They transferred me into operations and that worked out pretty well. I then ran the entire ready mix operation and had some fun wit...Expand for more
h that. Finally discovered that the president and I had very different philosophies on how to run a company. He wasn't going anywhere so I had to. Took a job selling color and color dispensing systems to the concrete products industry covering Ohio, Michigan and part of Indiana so I had to move to the Toledo, Ohio area. Yes, their baseball team is really called the Mudhens and yes, Jamie Farr really is a celebrity there. Nice place though. Reminds me of Phoenix in the sixties and early seventies ... except for the snow. Well, had some family issues that required a temporary return to Vegas. Got a position as the GM of a rental company there. Succeeded beyond my expectations. Unfortunately the pay ain't what it ought to be so ... After looking for a new job for 8 months and not getting interviews for positions for which I was perfectly qualified because I didn't have a bloody degree, I decided to finish my BSBA because, you never know when you will need to find a new job. You'd think that with 25 years of mangement experience it wouldn't matter but apparently, it's important for PR purposes. Was employed as a GM in Durango, CO, back in ready mix. Actually discovered and even worse senior executive than Harry Frazee of the Red Sox (traded Babe Ruth). Got laid off and finally landed a role as a General Manager in New Hampshire. Still in the concrete industry. Gotta do what you know. Be good and God bless.
