Brad's Story

A writing teacher once said that so many wealthy kids want to be writers but they've got nothing to write about. Not that I'm wealthy, hardly, not even close. I've been the hot shot youngest in the corporate department and I've been the oldest. I once had the wife, kids, white picket fence, commuting into the city, to working out of my apartment. It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage Most unexpected event, I was a full-time househusband for a couple of years, then the primary caregiver for a few more. Now I don't recommend what I went through, but every guy should experience it for at least a few months. However not with teenagers, but with young kids. My youngest was 2 when it began, and I became her number 1. An insurance agent once tried to convince me that men change the most when they get married. No way. I changed the most when an angel (in the form of a nurse) placed my one hour old baby in my arms then worked away. At first I looked up and with panic in my voice yelled to her, oh excuse me. She never looked back. Within one minute I had bonded and would later discover that I had profoundly changed. Lots of regrets, didn't seize onto the opportunities when they had presented themselves. Didn't understand the concept of family until it was over. But I also had the greatest love affair ever when I first met my wife, saw Led Zeppelin from the 8th row, viewed the milky way galaxy from a remote area and finally understood how it enthralled and inspired early man. And I've lived long enough to see a black man elected President and to appreciate. wise man knows how much he doesn't know. I've taught Math in a Bronx middle school and didn't survive. I solved computer problems before IBM published the answers in a Redbook, I once stumbled onto the origins of Calculus without knowing it. And I discovered that I really did have ADD my whole life, which explains quite a bit. I lived a life. What have I learned? No excuses, overcome and accomplish. Cherish love wherever you find it. Time and love are our most precise commodities. And as for marriage, which is funny since I'll never get married again, I now believe in two things. 1 pick your battles (also works with teenagers). 2 in a relationship if there isl no agreement then you have to ask yourself one question. Do I want to be right or have a happy relationship? You can't have both. I'm 54 and recently passed my nuclear stress test and a colonoscopy. And I'm one week late with the rent. And where does that leave me? Still wishing I had gotten to know Fran Vizzini, taken my studie...Expand for more
s more seriously, not having dropped out of JV football but none of that helps me today. I've gained some amount of respect from my oldest child, and most importantly become more open and seeking new experiences. And what the hell am I doing writing all this here where a possible 627 graduates (no idea how many are no longer with us) , most of which I don't know or even remember, can read it? Well I'm writing again which a different writing teacher (she is an actual book author) has told me to do. . And many women are Goddesses, Or am I simply getting in touch with my feminine side? Update 3/2016 About 1 year ago I acquired a septus blood infection which left me with no feeliing or control of my ankles and feet. and residing in a nursing home in Riverdale. I have my own room, a multimillion dollar view of the Hudson river and the GWB. I am the youngest guy here who is cognitively intact. Currently I have various aliments, non of which are life threatening. I can take out any book I want from the NYC public library, I have my own TV and laptop and 500 albums on my cell phone. Frankie says Relax. At this point I don't know what the future holds. I'll be having a full spinal MRI and we'll see if there are any answers. In the meantime I tool around the facility in my wheelchair. I don't think I'll ever drive again though NYState will allow it till 2020. I still have to provide 24/7 computer service for my two college students who are my babies. I thought my youngest wouldn't need me anymore when she bought a macpro laptop. Nada, they still have to interface with the world Steve you made a wonderful operating system but without plug and play for printers and when the hell are you going to use generic connections. Everything is so expensive in Appleland I still love the free world of Linux Ubuntu. Just bought a new i7 thinkpad. smaller and lighter and the batteries go for 7 hours (practical). 2 SSDs dual boot into win10 and ubuntu and maxed out the RAM and also came with a touchscreen. I might experiment with VM to see if I can run both systems simultaniously. As you can see, I've got plenty to do. Last year I got hooked on the Warriors so for the final I was texting my girl friend play by play on the finals because she was mostly in class. She loves Lebron, he's her perfect man. We're just friends at this point. so I miss lying next to a women and the repartee with a women who kmows me well and not an aide or nurse
