Bradley's Story

After graduation I continued to work at Stick 'em Up at the Valley Fair Mall and was soon promoted to manager, but I new that I needed to aspire for greater things. I started to attend Salt Lake Community College in the fall that year to pursue a career in drafting and engineering. After about one year of attending and paying for college, I decided to enlist in the Air Force Reserve to help pay for college and to fulfill a childhood dream. I completed basic training and a drafting/surveying program. A month after I returned, I met my future wife Holly of nearly 17 years. I worked several odd jobs while going to school, but decided drafting wasn't in my future. The following year, Holly and I were married and living on a shoe-string budget. Things were tight, but life was good. She really brought out the best in me, including getting back to church. I finally landed a half-decent job at Franklin Covey around the time our first daughter Sidney was born. We also purchased our first home from my Dad, the one in Taylorsville that I had grown up in. A couple of years later, I left my family for 4 months to cross-train in my military career as a firefighter. About a year later my second daughter Madison was born. I was hired for a promising career with Union Pacific Railroad as a switchman/brakeman and was later promoted to foreman/conductor. Unfortunately, being laid-off four times in two years took its toll and we nearly lost everything. Things started to improve after our family was finally able to be sealed in the LDS temple. I was blessed with a great and steady job at Tooele Army Depot as a firefighter. I've been working there for nearly eight years now and was recently promoted to captain. After the tragedies of 9-11, I was militarily activated for a one year, which included a deployment to Saudi Arabia. After I returned, we moved to a larger home in Grantsville, Utah in the Tooele Valley. This got me closer to work and out of the congested city. I love the quiet, spacious, country life. Last fall, I was activated again and spent about 4 months in Kirkuk, Iraq. I now have over 19 years in the reserves and hold the position of Deputy Fire Chief and the rank of Senior Master Sergeant...Expand for more
(E-8). Holly plans for me to retire from the reserves very soon! Like most firefighters I know, I also have a part-time job, this one at Miller Motorsports Park on the Crash/Rescue Team. My wife, Holly also works with me there on occasion. She likes to tell people that she works as a firefighter. My family enjoys attending Utah Grizzlies hockey games, 4-wheeling the mountains nearby, and taking family vacations. My hobbies include playing ice hockey and collecting classic vehicles. (I haven't been able to find the time or money to actually restore any of them yet). I also follow the Jazz like most people in Utah. Holly runs a day care out of our home and she is also a summer camp activity counselor for Tooele City. Her favorite hobby is party planning and decorating. She also enjoys attending Bon Jovi and Tim McGraw concerts whenever she can. Sidney and Madison are both better students than I ever was. This has made parenting easy for Holly and me. I¿m sure the challenges are yet to come as they continue to climb into their teenage years. Sidney enjoys horseback riding and surfing the 'net. She plans to become a veterinarian (She really has a thing for animals). Madison enjoys acting and singing (even though she is quite shy). She wants to be some kind of performer when she grows up. I keep regular contact with a few people from high school; Bill Patterson (who is now also my brother-in-law, since we married sisters), Bryan McAnally, Rick Himes, and Toby Garcia; also from a grade younger, Mike Prickett and Kenny Shelton. Contact me if you need any info on any of these guys. I don't run into too many other people from high school since moving from Taylorsville. There are a few standouts that I would like to hear from, mainly Chris Jeffs and CaryLyn Miles. There are a few people that I haven't seen since Jr. High that I'd like to catch up with, like Travis Manning. As for the rest of you, I'm pretty good at recognizing names, and sometimes even faces, but I've been having some trouble remember stories we may have together. I guess that happens over time if you don't keep rehashing them. Hope to hear from you and make that reconnection. Thanks for checking in on me. -Brad
