Brenda's Story

25 some odd years ago I left Florida. I still can't pinpoint the reason. I do go back to visit, though I often wish I had stayed (for friends and family). But whatever lured me out west had strong appeal, although I never thought I would wind up in Tucson. I moved to Colorado, married and stayed there 6 years. Then I joined the Air Force. After training (yuck!) I really enjoyed the military, although I am a pacifist at heart. I try to act tough, though. I have never really found whatever it is I have been looking for (maybe because I am not sure what it is), but have found lovely (and the contrary) people along the way. I still believe in Jesus and thankfully He has continued to stay with me in this wild journey I have taken. I still think too much and cry too much and get angry at what I perceive to be injustice too much. I am still the bull in the china shop who just wants to get out into the pasture and look at the clouds and breathe. I still have not learned to be charming and politically correct. I have seen a lot of births (worked labor...Expand for more
and delivery for nine months) and seen and learned of many deaths, all of which has touched me deeply. I have loved deeply and been loved deeply, although not in the same time period. I believe in the great capability of humans (and non humans alike) to love and act heroically. I hope to love and act heroically myself, when called upon to do so. I fear for the trauma we have inflicted on our earth, I pray it will not prove fatal. My favorite singer and songwriter, Dan Fogelberg passed away this year, and with him a piece of my youth. His words still ring true in my life, the truest for me are in the chorus of "Leader of the Band". Although I have never been musically inclined, the words remain...."the Leader of the Band is tired, and his eyes are growing old, But his blood runs through my instrument and his song is in my soul-My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man, I'm just a living legacy to the leader of the band, I am the living legacy to the Leader of the Band". Here's to you, Daddy, hope I have run a good race and made you proud.
