Brent's Story

Life Hello, everybody! I guess the point of this site is to catch up with what has been happening since high school. What I am doing now will probably not surprise those of you that knew me very well. After Tri I went to college at Taylor University where I played baseball and studied History Education. I got hired right out of college to teach social studies and coach baseball at Harrison High School in West Lafayette. The whole process of establishing my career was very interesting. It was totally different than my experiences up to that point in time. One week I'm out baling hay and driving tractors like I had been doing for 11 years, the next I'm in charge of my own classroom and 150 students. This is all happening at a school that had almost as many students in the freshman class as what we had in 9-12 at Tri. After 16 years, I'm still here at Harrison teaching World Civilization and Psychology. I did finally take a break from coaching a few years ago. Coaching was an awesome experience! We were State Champs in 1995, and have had 8 of our players go on to play professional baseball. You can see Eric Bruntlett right now with the Houston Astros. I miss baseball, but am enjoying being just a teacher and daddy. I will probably coach again s...Expand for more
ometime down the road. At Taylor I met a Middletown girl and we got married the year after we graduated. She was a Spanish teacher, but is currently staying home with Kenzie, our 6 year old little girl and Kyle, our 2 year old little baby boy. We live in the country outside the small town of Remington. It's roughly the same size as Lewisville. As far as hobbies and intersts go, I have a wide array of things that keep me busy. I still love the outdoors, and am an avid hunter and camper. My dad's family is Catawba and Cherokee Indian and I have learned a lot about Native culture and traditions, which fits very nicely with my history career. Back in 1998 I started my own business, White Eagle Traders, and I make a lot of traditional Native American tools and crafts. I travel around to pow wows and historic re-enactments. Several museums and art galleries purchase some of my things. Some of these include the Battle Ground Museum, Conner Prairie, Bear Creek Art Gallery, and most recently the Smithsonian Museums of the Native Americans in New York and D.C. Well, that is probably more information than you wanted to know! Thank you for taking some time to read this to see what I've been up to. I would love to hear from you. Take care!
