Brent's Story
Just after High school graduation I lived at and around Atlantic Beach for the summer. Returned to Raleigh and went to Wake Tech for Mechanical Drafting and Civil Engineering Tech. Worked at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant as Electrcal inspector for several years and moved to Wilmington in 1985.
There I worked with the Dept of Transportation, helping to build and inspect roadways and resurfacing projects. Kerry Cross was assist engineer. I worked there for about 12 years or so, and wanted to return to school to advance studies, at first I thought Environmental Engineering, I took some classes at UNC Wilmington and was ready to make a bigger move to NCSU. All my spare time not studying in Wilmington was spent surfing, diving, and anything I could do in the water. A few trips to Coasta Rica, but surfing was my passion. Living on the coast helped as salt water was in my viens.
My transition to Raleig...Expand for more
h as a full time student in 1995 was scary, I was at least 15 to 20 years older than most, but I was on a mission and determined to be the best I could and let the cards fall where they will.. I studied night and day, lost track of many friend and family to later much regret. I graduated in 2000 with degrees in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. Something that I never would have thought would have been possible for me consdiering my performance in High School. My mom passed away just a month before graduation from NCSU, I didnt think I was going to be able to complete final exams, But she was the most supportive person in this journey and I had to complete it.
Several years working with Kimberly Clark as a process engineer and found as much as I loved the job and got a lot of experience in the nonwovens manufacturing and research, corporate world.... I HATED!!
