Brent's Story

Well....definitely a long way away from Waterford. After H.S. I attended the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Graduated in 1987 with a BS of Industrial Design. Moved to Arizona in 1988. Worked as "Art Director" for 5 years designing and building parade floats for the Fiesta Bowl from 1988 to 1992. Then took a major career shift by joining the US Postal Service. Was a letter carrier, then Supervisor. In 2001 I joined the Address Management Division of the Postal Service and became Manager of Address Management Systems in 2009. My office maintains the address database for the US Postal Service's "Arizona/New Mexico District". We work with all cities and counties in both Arizona and New Mexico; updating and maintaining all Address and ZIP Code data, working with developers to incorporate new growth addresses into our database and working with industry mailers and customers to ensure that their address matching software is accurate. However, All good things come to an end. I retired from the Postal Service in April 2021. I now work as a freelance designer/illustrator. Personally, I got married in 1997 to a wonderful woman who had three sons. They're all grown up now. The youngest; David lives here in Arizona, in Phoenix. Robbie; the middle boy, lives in Iowa with his wife. Brian; the oldest was living in Tennessee after 15 years in the military. Sadly, Brian passed last year. He had a little boy; our Grandson Marek, who was born with C.P. His mother is not...Expand for more
in the picture so Marek lives with us now. When I initially wrote this in 2018 he was 8 years old; he's an awesome little Dude. Every day is a struggle for him but every day he makes little improvements. Art is still part of my life; I didn't give that up after joining the Postal Service. I have a side business doing graphic and digital art and I do still pick up the paintbrush and do paintings the old fashioned way too. I also spend a lot of time behind the camera capturing the world around me. I try to take one big trip every year and photograph what nature has to offer. There's so much to see around us; I can't imagine sitting still. If that's not enough; I have my yard also. Over the last several years I've been cultivating various species of cactus, agave, ocotillo and aloe......I've got 15,000 sq. ft. of back yard. It's still a work in progress but I have 110 varieties growing as of this year, 2018. Cactus flowers are amazing, nothing quite like them in appearance and color. I guess that's all I really have to say right now. Maybe I'll update this story later but it took me a decade or more to actually write something in here so I'm fairly confident that an update will be far down the road. One parting comment to anyone that decides to read this.....Don't dwell in the past...I know that may come off as cliché but I would offer it up as sound advice. There's too much to experience. Don't get caught up in 35 years ago. Live for the next 35!
