Brent's Story

After high school, I went into the Army. I graduated both Infantry and Airborne schools. I was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. I stayed there for my entire enlistment. I was in the 2nd Battalion/504th Parachute Infantry Regiment as first, an M47 anti-tank gunner, and then as a M-60 machine-gunner. The highlights of my enlistment were going to Panama for Jungle School in March 1989, the Invasion of Panama (Operation Just Cause) in December 1989, and the first Gulf War from August 1990-April 1991. I ended up with 36 regular jumps and one combat jump (Panama). After I got out of the Army in February 1992, I worked some odd...Expand for more
jobs for 2 years until I got hired on with the Birmingham Fire Department in March 1994. In March 2000, I was injured with a severe leg injury during a structure collapse at an apartment fire. I ended up with 4 surgeries on my left leg and 2 surgeries for both knees. I eventually went on full disability on November 2004. I was married in 1994 to Janie Bundrum. She passed away on September 4, 2004. I went to Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham from June 1994- August 1996. I got an Associate degree in Applied Science. From December 6, 1996-January 2004, I was a vehicle operator in the Air National Guard at Birmingham (117th Air Refueling Wing).
