Brett's Story
I'm filling this out because I missed the recent 25th reunion (and the 20th reunion and whatever ones that took place prior to that.)I've done a decent job of reconnecting with the people I've wanted to see or talk to from Tolman like my old friend David Louis and my cross country coach Ted Warnock.
Like many people, my fear of going to a high school reunion is that no one will remember who I am! Or maybe I will look in the mirror and be transported back that lovely time in my life when I weighed 135 pounds and wore braces for an infinity. I did go on Dottie Charland's page to see photos from the previous two reunions which was a guilty pleasure. I saw a number of people I was friends with and even some I stay in touch with today.
Today, I'm married with two young boys (Van, five; TJ, 2) and work as director of public relations at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence.
I've also made a couple independent movies and am working on a new one called "International Stinkbomb." My wife came up with the title so ask her what it means. We'll probably have a premiere in the fall to which any and all of you are invited. at the Darlton Theater. Still, they're fun. A couple years ago, I was shooting a scene at a bank in Pawtucket and we had to hire a cop so (I guess) we wouldn't hold up the bank. Turns out the cop was someone we graduated with. I talked to him for a little bit and he asked me what I was doing. I told him we were making an independent movie and he asked why. I told him it was sort of a hobby and he had this look on his face like I'd just peed on his shoe. Guess he didn't understand why someone would do that instead of playing golf and drinking beer.
So that was nice.
I went to URI for the better part of the 80s as a journalism major. I started my career as a reporter before going into public relations about 12 years ago. In 2006 and 2007, I taught public relations at URI as an adjunct professor. It was odd being back on campus. Briefly, I imagined I was a kid again until I walked by a window and saw the reflection of a bald 40-year old man in suit carrying a briefcase. Still, it was a lot of fun, even if the students were impossibly young.
I wanted to get in touch with Dottie or Caroline to see if they wanted help with the next reunion. There might be a "Formerly Scrawny Geek" demographic that I could help them tap into!
