Lorraine's Story
I'm posting this on August 11, 2018, the year marking the 40th anniversary of my graduation from high school. Recently, I've seen two wonderful and inspiring films, LOVE SIMON and FREAK SHOW that dealt with teenage boys coming out as either gay or transgender in high school and the struggles and abuse that they experienced. I related strongly to these two characters. However, the difference between them and me is that they were brave enough to come out while they were in high school, whereas I didn't have the same courage. It brought back many memories I have of my high school years which are mostly daily and perpetual verbal and physical abuse which these days is referred to as "bullying".

year reunion celebration for my class I decided that it would be the perfect time to "come out" to my class and reveal my authentic self that I didn't have the strength to do 40 years ago. This self has been kept hidden inside me for many years, but a few years ago I was guided, encouraged, and supported to finally set her free. Although my days in high school were some of the most painful and dark days of my life and I have carried some of that pain with me even up until now, it is my desire that with this posting here I will set the pain free once and for all! It is my sincere hope that anyone who reads this has found or will find all the peace, joy, self love, and happiness that I've found since I began this journey of transition. Peace!
