Brian's Story

Life Well I don't even know where to begin. It's been 10 years. I went to college, graduated, got married, started a career and have a son now. I married Brigette in 2002 and this month will be our 5 year anniversary. Ryan Patrick was born August 15th,2006. He was 13 weeks early and just a hair over 2 pounds when he was born. He gave us a huge scare, but after spending 74 days in the Intensive care Nursery at Presbyterian Hospital, he came home and is doing great now. It's been great being a dad. I love seeing all the ways that Ryan is just like me. He is not a morning person, just like me, and he even sleeps on his side and snores just like I do. I've got a few hobbies that take up my spare time when I'm not at home being dad. I play paintball fairly regularly with a few friends. I also like to ride my motorcycle. I used to be into offroading, but I sold the Jeep when Ryan was born (it wasn't quite a family vehicle). Other than that, I spend all of my time either working or lying around the house. School Only a little bit to tell here. I graduated from Western Carolina University in 2001 with a Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Medical Care. The best thing to happen while in college was I met my beautiful wife Brigette. I suckered here into moving back to Charlotte with me after I graduated, and we were married a year later. go back to school and get my Master's Degree, but first I have to wait until Brigette finishes her Master's. I don't think it would work having both of us in school, working full time and raising Ryan, Not enough time in the day. Workplace I have been working at Mecklenburg EMS Agency (Medic) here in Charlotte ever since I graduated from WCU. I worked as a Field Training Officer for a while, then in 2005 was promoted to Education and Quality Specialist, which is a fancy way of saying I work in training. The only difference between being a Field Training Officer and what I do now, is that instead of being responsible for training one person (new employees, EMT Students, Paramedic Students) at a time, I am responsible for working with the training program for every EMT and Paramedic in the Agency (about 350). I think the best thing about my job now is that, along with the Education and Quality Specialists, I have helped develop a completely new and comprehensive continuing education program using high-tech simulation. There are no other EMS Systems in the country doing what we do on the level that we do it. I have a great time at work every day and actually can't wait to go to work. Along with the simulation program, I am also responsible for quality improvement and teaching at monthly con-ed sessions. It's a lot of fun and keeps me very busy every day.
