Brian's Story
Life has been good these past 40 years since leaving Bothell High School. After 4 hippie years in college, I graduated with a Philosophy degree -- an interesting but not particularly practical choice. I then worked 3 years in the Peace Corps in the Philippines organizing a sewing cooperative and then took a year to travel around the world -- starting in Borneo, Indonesia and then overland from Singapore to Zurich. This was a wonderful adventure and something I had wanted to do since junior high school. I then went back to school and after a few years ended up with a Ph.D. in Physics -- a more practical and equally interesting choice. I met my wife, Mary, in graduate school and for 20+ years (up until a couple of years ago) we lived in Clyde Hill while I was employed as a research professor at UW st...Expand for more
udying cloud physics and cloud particle initiation and growth.
12 years ago we bought a farm on Salt Spring Island in BC and two years ago we transitioned up here. I now work mornings in the lab (which I moved up from UW) and most afternoons around the farm. On the farm we grow organic apples for apple juice plus fruits, berries and veggies selling the excess at the local farmer's market.
For fun we boat, read, play music and work outside in the garden. We also enjoy taking longer distance hikes. Aside from hiking around the US we have walked coast-to-coast in England, the St. Giles way in France, the Cordillera Apolobamba in Bolivia, the Annapurna circuit in Nepal, and trekked through Ladakh and Zanskar in Northern India.
Cheers, Brian
