Brian's Story

Life After graduating in 1990 from Potomac, I moved to Richmond, Virginia, where I shared an apartment with fellow Potomac 1990 graduate Mike Nicolosi. Lived in Richmond for three years, going to part time college at V.C.U. and partying every night. After three years decided to pack up and move to Chicago to become an actor. Nicolosi headed to Minneapolis to front a rock band. We both succeeded in doing these things and remained in touch, and close friends. From 1998 to 2004 I sang country western music every Thursday night at The legendary Inner Town Pub in Wicker Park, chicago. If you're ever in Chicago, don't leave without visiting this amazing bar (The best in Chicago). Say hi to Mike the owner, too, we're close friends. In Chicago I worked in radio, theater and films, my biggest achievement being a starring role in the internationally released feature film "Beyond the Soul" by respected Indian director Rajiv Anchal ( don't see it, it's horrendous) and the lead in the big hit play "Smokers" on the chicago stage (this was one was really good), as well as the nationally broadcast radio program "War Letters". Graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2001, with a Bachelor's degree in Theatre. Around the same time I got offered a part understudying the lead for Austin Pendleton at the Steppenwolf in a production of Chekov's "Uncle Vanya", but decided to go to Europe instead (regret it), where I remained for a few monthes, journeying through France, Belgium, Germany,Austria, Luxembourg, Italy, Poland, and Slovakia. Europe was great, but I realized I passed up on the opportunity of a lifetime. Live and learn. Returned to Chicago to work with the Theatre Oobleck company, an acclaimed avant garde troop before being fired from the group after my ex-girlfriend started dating the founder and told him what a dirtbag I was. Liar!!! After this, I co-wrote a movie script called "Honky Tonk Masquerade" with Potomac 1991 graduate Dan Wallace, and direct...Expand for more
or and writer Coe Douglas. This script was the best thing I've ever been a part of, and would have made a great film. But Dan decided to focus on his music and left the project, as me and Coe fought for control of the movie. It remains abandoned and unfilmed, sadly. After this dissappointment, I attempted to produce and direct a film on my own in 2003, a high school comedy called "Ssssoiler!!! A.K.A. Misfits of Mankind" starring sixty of Chicago's best theatre actors, playing high school students. It was all based on the the living hell I experienced at Potomac high school (See, I DID learn something!)but with a great deal of fictionalization and absurd embellishment. The readthrough of the script was a big hit, but the movie fell apart because of lack of proper financing and all my lead stars pulling out at the last minute to do bigger and better things (my female lead, Dina Connoly, went on to play Casey Affleck's fiancee in "Ocean's Twelve", although they cut all her lines out). After this collapsed, I was embittered and jaded and decided to turn my back on acting and directing. So I pursued music in earnest as a honky tonk country singer known as Cryin' Brian. Carved a niche in the Chicago scene opening for punk bands. Later on formed a Bluegrass band called Heaven Hill. Started living the rock n' roll life a little too much, and decided to get the hell out of Chicago. In November 2004, I moved back to exciting Dumfries (what happened to all the Trees?), to save money for a move to Nashville. It actually has been refreshing and pleasant being back here, although I've been taking a lot of trips.Just got back from visting Mike Nicolosi in Boston. Also saw Providence Rhode Island. it was a great time. for my next trip i think i'll head south to Savannah, Georgia. I'm planning on doing some shows in Richmond, Virginia in the upcoming monthes.I'll post them on my profile, and will soon post a picture. Would love to hear from all y'all, Brian
