Brian W's Story

Life If you would like to chat my cell is 817.899.7584. After High School, I stayed in Abilene and I started to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice. I also worked in retail while I was going to college. I had to drop out of college so I could concentrate more on work, so I could help my folks out when they needed it. In 1996, both of my parents passed away. In November of 1996, I followed my dream of being in law enforcement, so I moved to Fort Worth,Texas, when I received a job with the Sheriff's Office (the best thing that happened to me in 1996). In April of 1997 to December of 1997, I went to the police academy (76th BPOA) it was a long eight months but I would not exchange it for anything, and received my commission as a peace officer. I am now a Deputy Sheriff with the Sheriff's Office, currently assigned to the South Patrol Division working the day shift. I love my job and look forward to going to work each and every day. I have a great wife, Shelly, and two great kids, Madelaine & Ethan. On November 11, 2008, our family was blessed with the adoption of our baby boy, Mason Quaid Burman. He was born at only 24 weeks, weighing 1 lb 7 oz and measured 12 inches long. The doctors did not have much hope for Mason's future due to his prematurity and an infection. My wife, Shelly and I, became Mason's parents, when he was 2 weeks old and spent 3 beautiful and joyous weeks with him in the NICU at Baylor All Saints Dowtown. Each night we would take books up to Mason's room and the nurses would get him ready for storytime. Many nights Mason would open his eyes and reach out with his tiny hands and grab one of our fingers while we read to him. While Mason was completely enveloped in love, prayers and well wishes he just couldn't fight the 2nd infection that invaded his body. On November 30,2008, Mason went to play with Jesus. Mason may have been a tiny baby and with us for such a short time, but he made such a monumental impact on so many lives. To honor our beautiful baby Mason's memory we are establishing the Mason Quaid Burman Foundation to benefit all babies who enter the doors of the NICU at Baylor. Through the kindness and generousity of so many people who want to honor Mason we are purchasing special children's books to be set in a bookcase for all mommies and daddies to read to their child(ren). As Mason's foundation continues to grow we hope to be able to purchase books so that when each and every child leaves the NICU a book will go home with them. We would like to give a special Thank You to so many of you whom have already contributed to Mason's foundation especially the members of the Tarrant County Law Enforcement Association. We are excited to share with you the news of our adoption journey to three little children. Our previous adoption was here on U.S. soil for our sweet baby Mason who is now playing in Heaven with Jesus. This time God has called us out of our comfort zone and over to Eastern Europe. In October of this year we took that step of faith and committed to adopt a 5 year old boy and a 4 ¾ year old girl, both of whom have Down Syndrome. Since that day we have also been led to adopt another beautiful 5 year old boy with Down Syndrome. That brings our adoption to a total of 3 blessings. Our boys reside in the same baby house, but our daughter has already been sent to the mental institution. In Eastern Europe, if a child is not adopted by the age of 4 they are sent to institutions where they most often perish within 1-3 years. This is a very grim situation for our daughter and one we are trying most feverishly to change. We are fortunate that our daughter is in an institution where they will allow us to adopt her. So we really feel that not only is our family being blessed, we also believe that we are saving her lif...Expand for more
e and that of her future two brothers. Owen Reece is the oldest of our 3 blessings. He turned 5 on June 27, 2009. He has blond hair and blue eyes and is an orphanage favorite. Hudson Quinn is our next oldest boy who just turned 5 on November 27, 2009. The last reports we have are that he is just learning to walk only because he doesn't want to. That will change here with him trying to keep up with Ethan. Evelyn Rose is going to help Madelaine and Shelly with the estrogen level in our house. She is turned 5 on December 27, 2009. She also has blond hair and blue eyes. Madelaine is most excited to finally have at least one sister! The bible says "Pure and undefiled religion before God the father is this, to look after orphans and widows in their distress." (James 1:27) Did you know that there are over 147 million orphans worldwide? Current estimates state that if 6% of born again Christians were to adopt we could care for all the adoptable orphans in the world. "Adopting one (or in our case three) may not change the world, but for that child, the world will change!" -CR Some of you may be wondering what has prompted us to adopt three special needs orphans from across the world. Primarily, we have always felt that we would adopt children and that they would be special needs. We really believe that God does not call the equipped, but equips the called. Also, we truly desire to provide a loving family for these children that most likely would not otherwise have one. God has worked in a miraculous way and we find ourselves just shy of 3 months into the process, hoping to travel at the end of February. That means our Evelyn will have interaction, 3 meals a day, and not be left alone 24 hours a day. It means that our boys will have a go at it playing with Ethan and cars all day. The biggest challenge for us is not opening our hearts and home to three special needs children, but it is in finding the finances to make it happen. We estimate our total cost of adoption fees, document preparation, home study, airfare, USCIS clearance, travel for 2 trips, attorney fees etc. to be $26,000. That's certainly money we do not have laying around but are working diligently to raise. There are many grants for international adoptions, but unfortunately not ones that have been awarded to too many. So far, we have been able to trim that cost down by about $3,500. We truly know that God is faithful and is leading us to trust Him. By God's grace we have been able to raise about $14,000. We feel so blessed as a family to be surrounded by so many who support and love us, and whose kind words mean so much to us. We ask that you pray and consider supporting us throughout our adoption journey. There are two ways you can help: In early 2011 my wife and I were called back to Ukraine to adopt 2 little girls, Reagan Faith who is 5 years old and Carrington Ann who is 3 years old. Reagan is confined to a wheelchair, we really don't know if she has spinal bifida, spinal hernia, or CP, we were told by different people in Ukraine off of these. We'll being seeing the doctor asap for both girls. Carrington has down syndrome and she has other issues we have to see the doctor about her eating and not keeping anything down. To give you an idea, she is 3 and 1/2 years and she is about 13 lbs. She is about the size of a 12 month old. In February 2011, our family was called back to Ukraine to adopt to more daughters, Reagan Faith (5 years old with possible CP) and Carrington Ann (3 years old with Ds). Once they landed on USA soil, we admitted Carrington into Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth, due to her being only 11 pounds and emaciated.
