Brian's Story
Life
I went to school for about a year and a half at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, but unfortunately I let my social life become the driving force and forgot why I was in school to begin with. When I lost my scholarships I moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex to give the "real world" a shot. I've lived all over DFW since that time and currently live just a few minutes away from the Galleria in Dallas. In that time I've worked numerous IT jobs at companies from Fort Worth to Dallas to Plano. I'm currently working an internship at Mary Kay, Inc., and attending the University of Texas at Dallas full time, working to complete my BS in Computer Science.
School
I started out my school career at a preschool in Michigan that I don't remember. Then on to Kindergarten and 1st grade in Ohio. Second grade on up was in Arkansas--Sequoyah Elementary, Middle School, GJHS, then RHS. A year and a half at UA Fayetteville.... And currently I'm at UT Dallas. Oh yeah, and some classes here and there at Richland (Dallas County Community College).
College
In retrospect I see now that I had it made for college... Scholarships out the wazoo, I had nothing to worry about--but forgot the main reason I was there. What I would give now to be in that position again with what I know about the world today. I decided to join a fraternity... Yeah, that was smart. Ultimately I believe that was what brought me down. it's my damn fault, don't get me wrong, but if I hadn't joined the frat I don't think I would have drank like a fish, the parties wouldn't have bled over into the weeks and the hangovers wouldn't have kept me in bed and out of class. At least not to the extent they did. But oh well, you live and you learn. I lost my scholarships after my last semester, when I dropped all but one class (Differential Equations), which I flunked.
Now (fast forward to 2005) I'm back in school full time at UT Dallas trying to finish my degree. I understand the importance of an education and that stupid little piece of paper now. I have a much better perspective... I've got just over a year to go until I graduate, and I can't WAIT to have a real job with a real salary again. Living like a student when you're pushing 30 SUCKS!!
Workplace
UPDATE: Citadel Security Software was acquired by McAfee in December '06.
I started as an intern at Citadel Security Software in May, 2006. I graduated from UTD with my BS in Computer Science (Cum Laude, thank you) on August 5, and went on full time at Citadel on August 1.
As of October 2, 2006, Citadel is being acquired by McAfee. I have accepted an offer with McAfee and will be an employee once the acquisition has been completed.
Military
no military for me... I thought about doing the Navy thing when I was in high school, but there's no way I would have made it. Too much discipline!
