Brian's Story
Life as of September 2008
I play french horn on Broadway in New York City, and teach high school band in New Jersey. I've been married for 22 years and have 4 kids, and life is great! I've been climbing seriously for 25 years, and still enjoy high end ice and rock climbing. I do a little guiding, although less now than a few years ago. I got a Bachelor's from West Texas State, a Masters form the University of New Mexico, and a Doctorate from the University of Iowa....all in music (I must really be in a rut!). My oldest son is a freshman at the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio and is studying french horn (he is far better than I was at his age!). My other kids are in 9th, 7th, and 1st grades. We live on a lake on the Appalachian plateau and are surrounded by state forest lands. We get frequest visits by the black bearsthat live around here. One weighing in a 726 lbs was recently tagged a few miles from our house!
If you'd have asked me in high school about living East of the Mississippi, I'd have never considered it. But then I married a yankee, and, well.... Some of the interesting people and groups I've been lucky enough to perform with out here have been: Ray Charles, Dave Brubeck, Dianne Reeves, The New Jersey Symphony, The New Jersey Pops, The Gramercy Brass Orchestra, The Riverside Sinfonia, The Pennsylvania Ballet, and on Broadway: Miss Saigon, Beauty and the Beast, and The Secret Garden.
