Brigitta's Story
Life
I used to define myself as the oldest of 8 kids. My life was a lot of babysitting, hand-me-downs, and living under my parent's staunchly conservative Catholic rule. I was an A-B student and loved sports but didn't have much of a social life.
Life through me quite a few curve balls through college and the years following. I paid my way through college by working as a chemistry intern at Sandia National Labs. It was a hard road. raining. Unbeknownst to me, I was suffering from liver failure due to an undiagnosed heart problem that was greatly affecting my health--including memory and cognition. I was alone, 1800 miles from my nearest family, unemployed, and sick.
As low as things appeared, they suddenly turned a month later. I got a job in an area I love--biological warfare defense. I also met my future husband. When I had heart surgery 6 months later, he was there for me.
Three years later, my heart's completely healed. I'm happily married with a beautiful 19 month old daughter. I work for a great company and live in a amazing home. My life is more wonderful than I could have ever dreamed.
Workplace
I work for a great firm in D.C. As a contractor, each customer's an adjustment. I'm always learning--whether it's technology, science, or just how to best communicate my message.
