Bruce's Story
School
I have often thought about all of us at El Camino. It was a wonderful time. I can still almost smell the center hall when the Home Ec. class made that awful tuna noodle thing, and it would smell up the whole school. That and all the teachers that made us who we are today.
There were so many and I think the one that stands out most was A.D.Abbot. I don't know if any of us remembered when Eldridge Clever came to Sac State. A.D.Abbot allowed some of us to go hear the Black Panther speak. The district called as we were leaving and wanted to stop us. Dr.Abbot, said no and his kids needed to hear all points of view. He wasn't very big in size, but was a big man for us.
I only had one real girl firend at El Camino, Rosemary Green. She was and, I am sure, still is a sweet person. I think of her ofter too. If I could do it all over again--you bet I would.
The years that have passed, have been both good and bad--isn't that true for all of us. I have a great son. He is in the Army. He has been to...Expand for more
So. Korea, and Iraq, and now is training for deployment some time next year. He finally got his new unit and post early last year, He is with the 2nd troop of the 6th Cav. stationed in Hawaii. 24 years old and living in paradise--for all the rotten things, this isn't too bad. I think he is going to be a lifer as he has been in 8 years.
My wife and I are both reg. nurses. I work in the operating room. I bet you didn't see that coming. I only work perdiem now, after almost 20 years at Mery San Juan, and it suits us both. I enjoy my dogs, we raise Flat-Coat Retievers. In the last 40 years I have, also, owned a small BBQ restaurant and catering business. That thing about 'location, location, location' was part of why I don't have it now. And, 2001 with all it's drama did me in.
So, there you are. We all have memories and they are like many things that age and mellow, the good gets better and the rotten things don't smell as bad. Drop me a note and we can talk over some of the more interesting things.
