Bruce's Story
Right after graduation, I went to Lamar University in Beaumont and received my Civil Engineering degree in 1976. I took my first job in downtown Houston working for a company in the oil and gas industry. I would go downtown everyday via the bus system an hour each way. One day in Novemeber I had a very bad cold and a slight fever and just feeling yucky. I was at the bus stop waiting to head home. It was raining. I let out this huge sneeze and this voice behind me said "God Bless you"....and He has so far for 43 years years of marriage. My wife and I have been to Nigeria, West Africa from 1978 to 1980 and Saudi Arabia for 6 years (1980 to 1986).Our daughter was born in Saudi Arabia. From Arabia, we came back and moved to Bryan/College Station because I accepted a job as the City Engineer with the City of Bryan. I was with the City for 12 years and then an opportunity opened up with the Texas A&M University System in the Facilities Planning and Construction. the contractors to design and construct buildings all over the state within the university system.
We have been fortunate to travel the world, go places we would have never dreamed of going and experience different cultures that seemed so distant.
To just kick back and have fun, I still love to play my guitar, turning my amp up and just rocking out. I have been in our church's big band Christian swing band, a southern gospel bluegrass band, a 90's band and have done specials on call. Nope not gonna put my guitar down...I am just now getting the hang of it!!! Currently I play in my church's Praise and Worship group every other week.
What about my children...well my daughter (38 years) graduated from UT--San Antonio studying architecture and she is employed as an architect at a small local Bryan firm. She has two children--actually girls that are 6 and 9. My 29 year old son passed away back in 2018 and the grieving process is slow but all of the family is getting thru it. There still are trigger points that catch each of us. My considerate wife is a homemaker and super supporter of me and our daughter and grandkids.
