Bruce's Story

Life Anyone who went to school with me knows I was a big old ham, so it won't surprise anyone to know that I pursued a career in the show business - first as an actor, then as a writer/director in film and television. Then ten years ago, I was given a chance to take a little life detour, and I became a record producer (Broadway, and Broadway related albums) - in eight years I somehow, maniacally managed to produce 130 albums. I was then ready to be committed to an asylum, but instead wrote my first novel, Benjamin Kritzer, which came out in 2002 (buyable at amazon or anywhere online). Since it's about a young boy growing up in 1950s Los Angeles, and since a good deal of it takes place at Crescent Heights school and environs, anyone who lived in that area might just get a kick out of it. (a little update: Since writing this profile, the sequel to Benjamin Kritzer, Kritzerland, has just come out - it follows Benjamin from 10 to 13, and a good deal of it takes place at Louis Pasteur - I'm currently in the middle of the third and final volume which will follow him through high school - Hamilton, of course - geez, I haven't updated in a LONG time - the third book in the series, Kritzer Time, came out in 2004...Expand for more
- it mostly takes place at Hamilton). Update: Since the last update, which seems to have been made several years ago, I've written three more books, two mysteries (Writer's Block and Rewind) and my first book of short fiction, How To Write A Dirty Book and Other Stories. In 2005 I started a new record label, and I've been producing lots of albums since then. I've also gone back to directing and writing for the theater, and recently premiered a new musical (written with occasional writing partner, David Wechter) called The Brain From Planet X. Just finishing up a new mystery. That's about it for now. Guess it's time for another update: Three more books, which are part of a mystery series featuring a fifteen-year-old girl protagonist, Adriana Hofstetter. Murder At Hollywood High, Murder At The Grove, and the about to come out Murder At The Hollywood Historical Society. I've been directing a lot of stuff, and I've adapted the cult movie I wrote and directed in 1975, The First Nudie Musical, for the stage, and we just did a big staged reading of it for the LA Festival of New Musicals. I do love hearing from people I knew, so drop me a line, either here or directly to kritzerand at gmail dot com.
