Bruce's Story
I was raised in Harahan, LA. I attended Harahan Elementary School for grades 1-8, John Curtis Christian School for grades 9 &10, and East Jefferson High School for grades 11 & 12. I graduated from East Jefferson in 1969.
After high school, I went to college at Northwestern State University in Natchotoches, LA for 3 semesters before dropping out. I went to work for the local electric utility. I retired in 2006 after 36 years. I worked as a maintenance mechanic, fossil power plant operator, nuclear reactor operator, QA Auditor, QC inspector, and Root Cause and Corrective Action Specialist. 30 years total in the nuclear field. I have returned to college at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA for my own enjoyment, (not seeking degree).
I have been married for 38 years, 2 grown sons, and one grand...Expand for more
son and one granddaughter I married a girl from Lake Charles, LA that I met during my first college carreer.
I discovered sailing about 15+ years ago. I am now an avid sailor. I am the owner and captain of a small trans-ocean capable sailboat which I am outfitting to cruise the Caribbean Islands for 3-5 years. My tentetive departure is after the end of hurricane season in 2013.
I have lived in Kenner, LA. for the last 35 years. I am a member and Past Master of a local Masonic Lodge. I am Past President of the Jerusalem Temple Shrine Clown Unit. And I am Past Patron of the local chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
I belong to the New Orleans Power Squadron, the Lake Pontchartrain Sail and Power Squadron, and the Seven Seas Cruising Association. I teach Seamanship at the New Orleans Power Squadron.
