Bruce's Story
Life
Have moved around a fair bit since school. College at Ga Tech, finished married & with a son. I then started a career of making computer chips or the equipment used in the factories to make chips on a path that started in Melbourne, FL where I had my 1st daughter then got divorced {kids stayed with me} and a while later remarried gaining a wonderful stepdaughter and had my third daughter. Then onto Austin, TX for 3 years (a great town) followed by San Jose, CA for 4 years and Manassas, VA for 4 more years and then back to San Jose again. In all these years my son and two of my daughters got married, two went through college (UCLA & UCSB) and grandchildren (!?!?) started. After 20 yrs I divorced again and moved to St Pete, FL in 2002 where I am currently and remarried 7 yrs ago to a wonderful woman and between us we have 7 children and as of 2/2023 20 grandchildren, one in college. I don't think more are on the way, although my wife crossed the "great-grandmother threshold a year+ ago.
While in St Pete I a bought a small business in the home improvement field (wanted out of the high tech corporate world) just as the housing bubble burst (ugh!)...with such great timing I went bust in the busi...Expand for more
ness after a year or so. Worked for a solar cell consulting firm that made solar cell silicon from rice hulls/husks, very interesting, then to the health care industry (Siemens Healthcare) for 12+ years now & still at it (2/23). Made the move a few years ago to a 55+ community - who would have thought was in our class of '73 future? . Actually not bad, individual homes, HOA takes care of everything, we back up to a small golf course so no back yard neighbor and on the rare occasion an errant golf ball. yes, we deal with the aging health issues (too long for this paragraph) but also enjoy ourselves with travel, dance lessons, bike riding and evenings with wine and friends on the patio. Looking forward to enjoying retirement in some form in the next couple of years.
It's been an interesting adventure so far. I have gone from hesitant to travel to having moved numerous times and traveled worldwide. From the LHS wrestling team and the bum knee my sr year to "running" a couple of marathons and an ultramarathon, from very engineer-ish to being called a shrink by some friends. Like I said an interesting adventure. Would love to hear what has happened with others from LHS too. = Bruce Roberts; FEB-2023
