Bruce's Story

Life I went to Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. I was part of a five year co-operative education plan that allowed me to have jobs in my major which was accounting all through my college years. Being an accountant didn’t quite work out for me, but learning about balancing money helped me all throughout my business life. After I graduated in 1976, I stayed on in Boston I loved it so much. I started a jewelry import/export business that lasted until 1981 when I moved out to Los Angeles. With the help for friends who came to visit Boston earlier that year because of a writers strike in Hollywood, they helped jumpstart my career in the entertainment industry. My first jobs were as a creative publicist, press, promotions and talent agent. I eventually represented actors and actresses such as Charlene Tilton of Dallas fame, Howie Mandel, Paul Reiser and dozens of other well-known comedians. It has been said that Ellen Degeneres asked me to represent her, but I could not at the time take on an unknown talent out of New Orleans. In 1985, my mom passed away suddenly. That changed things for me, especially the way I looked at life and how I wanted to live it from that point on. After five years in Hollywood, I moved to New York City where I had various jobs in the entertainment industry there as well. In late 1990, I moved to South Florida. In 1993, I was introduced to the idea of doing radio and television as a way to promote a professional speaking career as well as the careers and businesses of others. I started my first radio show and soon a local cable television show. On the shows, I interviewed well-known celebrities, authors, athletes and other members of the community. I was on radio and television both as a producer and host in other areas such as New England and Arizona. I tried show business again in 1998. I met Lorin, the person I would marry at a New Years Party. A few months after I move...Expand for more
d back to Los Angeles, she joined me out there. Hollywood still did not work out for me as planned. In 2003, Lorin and I made a bold move. Lorin went to an island in the Western Caribbean called Roatan. She pronounced it “paradise” and said there was no English speaking radio or television there. At her suggestion, we moved to Roatan. Since January 2003, Roatan has been our home. We have loved it ever since. Shortly after moving there, I started broadcasting The Roatan Bruce Show on 107.7 FM, the only English speaking non-religious talk radio programming in Honduras. It has been heard since October 2003. In the spring of 2004, Kenia came into our lives. If you want to hear the whole story, just ask. We have just recently received the official adoption papers on a near impossible process. On August 7th, 2006, I moved the Roatan Bruce Show to 106.5 FM. The show is the main source of important, timely information for English speaking islanders, residents and tourists. On the show, I have interviewed over 200 of the "Who's Who" of The Bay Islands and Honduras including two Presidents of Honduras, Congressmen, Mayors, Governors and many of the top business and community leaders. In December 2008, I was asked to move my show over to the The Wave 101.1 FM a newly acquired English speaking station in the region. It is the first of its kind in the region. It is the first world class station playing excellent music 24 hours a day in the region. We are now live streamed. I am also the host and producer of the first English speaking local original television programming in Honduras as well as a columnist in The Honduras This Week, the only English speaking weekly newspaper in Honduras. I thought my days in Boston would always be the best. My time here with a family and serving so many people over the radio has by far made these years here on this tropical island in the far Western Caribbean very rewarding. Come and visit!
