Bruce's Story

Life I went to Japan right after graduation from KHS in 1974. After a few months of staying out late and sleeping all day, my father told me he had some friends who would fly me back to the States and give me a job and a place to stay. "Wow, I thought, 'these guys sound pretty cool." I should have asked a few more questions because those friends were waiting for me at Fort Ord California for Basic Combat training. They sent me off to see more friends who gave me sixteen more weeks of infantry and paratrooper training....Expand for more
I spent three years in the 82nd Airborne Division, took a stab at college, and eventually joined the 5th Special Forces Grou where I worked until 2008. I'm now looking toward retirement in a few weeks. Forty years go by quickly when you're having a blast, but I'll have to grow up sooner or later. For now, I think I'll jump out of a few more airplanes and visit the sunny Middle East a few more times. Once I get tired of chasing kids half my age (and younger), I'll find out what a fishing pole and easy chair is for.
