My father was a twice-wounded WWII veteran who served in North Africa and the Pacific. My brothers and I served during the Vietnam war; my sons as Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. After graduating from Roy High School, I served as a Navy Corpsman (combat medic) with the U.S. Marines and Naval Amphibious Forces at the end of the Vietnam War. Despite the hardships and deprivations, it was the finest educational experience of my life. I met and married my lovely wife, Valerie Jean (Child) Davis soon after returning home to Utah in 1976. After a brief courtship, we married in the Ogden Temple in March of 1977. We are the parents of seven children and have 14 grandchildren. I went to college on the Vietnam GI Bill, earning a BS in Business Administration from Weber State in 1979, an MBA in Business Administration from Utah State University in 1980, and a PhD in Leadership and Policy from the U...Expand for more
niversity of Utah. After receiving my MBA in 1980, I worked in compensation management at Utah Power & Light Co., PacifiCorp, and Thiokol Corporation. I started teaching evening classes in business administration at Weber State in 1984. It was only then that I discovered that teaching was my true calling in life. In 1990 I left corporate life for Weber State University, where I taught business administration and served as Director of the Center for Business and Economic Development ( 1990-2004), Executive Director of the WSU Davis Campus (1999-2008), and for the past eight years as Vice Provost. I continue to teach evening and Saturday morning classes in business administration and entrepreneurship in the Goddard School of Business and the Dumke College of Health Professions at Weber State University. In 1996 two colleagues and I founded One Stop Satellite Solutions (OSSS), an aerospace company that designed, manufactured, and provided launch integration services for low-earth orbit satellite systems. We made a lot of money, lost even more, and I gained a first hand education in entrepreneurship. After the attacks of 9/11, I served as the KVC for 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines, a combat infantry unit known as the "Saints and Sinners." 2/23 was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for "extraordinary heroism" during combat actions in Iraq in 2003. My sons are Marine Corps combat veterans who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. I currently serve on several governing boards: - Davis Chamber of Commerce - Layton City Council - Layton Rotary Club - McKay Dee Hospital - NxLevel Education Foundation - State Health Facilities Board - State School Lands Trust Board - UTOPIA Board - Utah Certified Development Company - Wasatch Front Economic Development District I'm a member of: American Legion Post 87 (Layton) Marine Corps Association Vietnam Veterans of America".
