Bruce's Story
Life
After graduating from the University of Delaware, I joined Procter and Gamble, but could take only so much toilet paper and disposable diapers. My significant accomplishment was to build a Charmin display for grocery stores that was an outhouse with a cardboard Mr. Whipple sitting inside. Nice start to my career.
I then joined ICI America. They were the fourth largest chemical company in the world and had acquired Atlas Chemical (as we knew it) a few years before. I thought I was joining Atlas. I think I missed the newspaper article about the acquisition. Anyway, we made a product that competed with Dupont's mylar, and after some time and some promotions, I ended up as national sales manager. Everyone else was out of town that day, I guess.
In 1990, ICI sent me to Los Angeles to be VP of Sales and Marketing for one of their divisions but I left the company in 1996 because we (...Expand for more
they) (someone?) moved the company to Chicago. By now, I had two kids, Kaitlin, born in 1981 and Matt born in 1990 and a wife, Kathy, who loved So. Cal. (by the way, the two kids are from the same parents. We just don'Ât see each other very often)
Then I set up and ran the US Subsidiary of a company located in India, Jindal America, and ran that for a while. Then I set up my own company buying and selling polyester film.
For the last three years, I've been an active SCUBA diver and volunteer at the California Science Center in their aquarium feeding sharks and doing the show for the guests.
I live in Redondo Beach right on the beach and love it.
Life is good and I'Âve had a hell of a ride. I have some contact with a few people from our class and we all agree that our Mt. Pleasant education was something special. A few of us should have paid a bit more attention, don'Ât you think?
